    Firearm Ownership Record FD 4542A

Has anyone here used this to register a handgun before?

I have a revolver that was purchased from a PP in 1986. It was never registered. I want to use this form to get it registered so it may be used in the future as a possible CCW. I also have heard that if something ever happens and I have to use it in SD or get caught carrying it while in the act of even a minor incident that not having it registered can be a big problem.

I posted about this before and got some conflicting answers. Some people had stated that it could be denied if I reported I got it from a PP as opposed to buying it new.

I really want to get this done.

Anyone know how exactly this would be handled by DOJ?

If I recall correctly, the guy that said DOJ was kicking back VolReg forms never clarified if the people were sending in VolReg forms to report illegal transfers or not. Your transfer was 100% legal so you should have no problem with CalDOJ. Just send in the form.

Sometimes CalDOJ will kick something back because they think it is illegal. For instance, a Calgunner got an Intra-Familial transfer form kicked back because the CalDOJ clerk thought that you had to be at least 21 years of age to own a handgun. It took a couple of emails or phone calls to set CalDOJ straight, but the Calgunner ended up getting the handgun registered in his name.

If CalDOJ kicks back your VolReg form because you didn't do the transfer through an FFL, (I seriously doubt they will) all you have to do is call them and remind them that the transfer was perfectly legal back when you did it in 1986.
