i cant get 10 rds into my magazine

i just bought a new SA XD 9mm and it came with two 10rd magazines. I can barely get 7 or 8 rounds in them though. Am i just not strong enough ? do the springs loosen up over time ?

Yes, the mag springs will loosen up over time with use (cycling rounds through the mags).

Get an Uplula. Helps greatly when loading mags.

Keep trying. Once you get the ten rounds in there, leave them for a week or so it should loosen the springs up a bit . I had the same issue with my MP .45.

Leaving a spring in one position does nothing to loosen it up. You need to cycle it to break it in.

I'd believe that if it didn't work with my gun but it did.

I use what I call the "thumb saver". There are different types; I like the one that slides over the top of the magazine and pushes the previous round down to allow room for the next. Without a helper, your thumb can get very sore.

Once you get them loaded up to 10 rounds, insert and drop them from your gun, with the slide closed. This will move the spring and help loosen them without killing your thumbs. Remember to observe all the "don't be a damn retard" rules of gun ownership while doing this.

Brand new? does springfield still supply a magazine loader with the XD's?

either buy the uplula, or just keep loading it to what you can, then unload it, and load it back for a few times, it should get easier as the spring gets the workout.

Not all XDs come with speed loaders. The "Essential Package" only has the gun, two mags, and a cleaning kit. It's also about $80 cheaper than the regular package.

This is completely normal. Just keep loading and unloading the magazine and the spring will weaken over time. Start off with an uplula. I just stuck a ruler in the magazine and kept compressing the spring repeatedly.
