    LEO with 308?

I was at work when I believe they were doing a felony stop in front of my store. It was about 10 squad cars, some uc and whole lot of guns. When they started to pull the M4 out I noticed a officer holding a different rifle. The characteristics was a folding stick, wood foregrip, short barrel, open magwell, and a curved AR style mag. I did a lil research and the only thing that I could come up with was a DSA SA58 Fal, I'm amazed by this but troubled at the same time. Do they need a 308 for such a situation and wondering r they trying to outgun the renewed AR ownership in the civilian market?

FAL's have straight mags like AR-10s. I would be very surprised if a LEO had a FAL.

Sounds to me more like a Galil. I know a few agency's in LACo have them. But so what if it was a .308? I know of a few agencies that got milsurp m14's awhile back and issue them to scout/ snipers. Not really sure what your concern here is?

I seriously doubt the renewed interesest in AR's was/ is a deciding factor for agencies choosing their weapons.

5.56 is the standard in patrol rifles. If he was a SWAT operator he may have had a .308 though.

FWIW... I used to be acquainted with rural deputies who carried M1As in the trunk long before the concept of "patrol rifle" was born.

OP, just curious why'd you be "troubled" with a LEO having a .308 on duty?

It's the show of force that makes people uncomfortable. LAPD used to have a tank but decommissioned it due to the unfavorable "show of force" to the general public.

yea, im just use to the fact most carry m4s or mp5s, never saw anything bigger than a 223. Coulda been a Galil, does look like the same characteristics as the one i saw today. Its news to me that 308s been use along with patrol, besides a marksman rifle.

Damn them! now i want a 308 rifle, damn expensive hobby Lol

I know of at least one agency that gives ALL of their officers an M14/M1a...
