    Motor home travel with a gun

    So I'm traveling to the coast this weekend and I'm taking a pistol. While I am driving does the pistol need to be locked up. It will be inside the motor home, i am not going to lock it behind some flimsy fiberglass panel outside and out of reach. Now once I am parked may I unlock it and have it at the ready. Not wearing it. just easy acccess and ready to fire. The motor home is my house during this time.

    A rifle or shotgun would be a better choice since it does not need to be locked up and can be in plain view as long as its not loaded, a fully loaded magazine sitting next to it is not considered loaded.

        When in transit or not set up as a residence, it's treated like a vehicle.
        Firearms = unloaded.
        Handguns = locked container.
        Long guns = does not need to be in a locked container except when driving through or in a school zone.

        When stopped and set up as a residnce, it's treated like a home.
        Firearms = loaded.
        Firearms = can be carried within the motorhome concealed or open, no need to be in a locked container.

          Thanks Quiet. I kinda figured it would be like that.

            Make sure wherever you setup temporary residency is legal to do so like an RV park. Otherwise, it is still considered a vehicle.

                don't state parks ban firearms altogether? check park rules.

                not sure, but aren't there restrictions on the "purpose of transporting a handgun" in california - is traveling between campsites covered?

                    Ummmmmm....... Ok I won't tell anyone I have it. Maybe i will lose it in a boating accident cause when i get there it will be too late to turn back. Ok I will leave it at home and wait for Ranger Bob and Ranger Susie to help if I need help. thanks for the replies. I will follow all the park rules.
