    Parents with guns.

[rant] For about the 10 billionth time I have taken flack from my family for getting another gun because "You shouldn't have guns, you have kids." reasoning. I keep all my rifles secure and my new pistol has a small new fireproof safe for a home. Heck I even have my two and a half year old trained to alert me if I leave anything (including my range bag) out. He's my youngest at 2.5, I also have a 5 year old and a 7 and 9 year old. Every single one of 'em knows to leave "daddy's things" alone (if they could even get into my gun storage). And its not like I am taking away from them to feed a hobby either.

Today sent me over the edge with this junk because my father-in-law commented on my new pistol as such "the only reason you need a pistol is to go nuts on someone, you don't need one." utter crap! Guess I don't like him for a reason. [/rant]

If parents don't have guns, how are children expected to learn how to safely live around them, handle them, and respect them?

I guess that they also don't have knives, sources of heat/flame, or cars because they have kids in the house?

    Sounds like BS to me.

My parents are visiting for the holiday weekend. Today my dad brought in his AK to show me. He also brought his CZ52, his Makarov, his Ruger .45, and my moms .38. He left the other guns at home. My problem is my parents have more guns than I do. Not fair.

I'm 18 and my parents never owned any guns and were anti-gun. I talked to them showed them videos from the popular iq201 channel on youtube. Went an bought an AR-15 as my first rifle and now they want to learn everything about it hehe. teaching them field strip cleaning the whole shabang. Taking them to the range in a few days to test it out.

At some point you have to stop giving 2 ****s about what other people say... family or not, if they aren't able to logically understand your position.

Should try that route, I wonder if any of those Fresno Bulldogs migrate south at all.

So you're F-I-L probably wouldn't want to go to Coalinga to play with some .50bmg rifles and AR pistols? Maybe you could take him to PRK in Fresno sometime! I know a lot of cops in the area that would gladly tell him how much of a *maroon he is...but it would be to no avail.

Actually, I take that back, cops carry pistols, by his own reasoning he must conclude that all cops either intend to go nuts on someone or that they are magically above human error. Ask him sometime and let us know!

Isn't it frustrating how closedminded and un-accepting some liberals are in their views? I mean, where's the undertanding, the equality, the free will???? Oh wait that's right, freedom only counts for those whom they agree with. Props to you HskerVrn for being responsible about your gun storage, teaching your kids to not touch any guns if they find any, and in the future for teaching them responsible gun handling/ ownership. Oh and I'd kindly tell the FIL to mind his own business so he'll be too busy to mind your's for you. Well maybe I wouldn't do it quite so kindly, but at least I'd be CLEAR about it

Ultimately you need to be unconcerned with their opinions. Sadly firearms are a "taboo" thing to those who simply don't understand them. They are hyper emotional and base their opinions on fear. Rather than holding those who use a firearm irresponsibly accountable, they place the blame on an inanimate object which when you think about it, is actually irrational.
IF someone goes out of their way to engage you in a conversation about it, simply tell them you aren't breaking any laws and you won't discuss it further. No need to get into it with people who don't want to discuss but would rather berate you. As Jesus said, don't cast your pearls to pigs.

                          Mind your own damn business

                          /conversation ends.

I have guns and also have 2 young children, 4.5 and 2.5. I have to be cautious with the kids, but I teach them the basic safety of handling firearms and also not to play with them without supervision. That way, it takes the curiosity out of them and that they are aware of the danger of firearms. However, that's my way of teaching my kids. If you disagree, teach your kids differently and mind your own damn business.

to be honest, I'd be a little concerned if my daughter was dating someone with guns

                              how about:

you have to get rid of all your cleaning products if you want me to bring my kids to your house

I had this conversation with a pediatric nurse, she was hysterical to find that i had guns, so I asked her, how many kids have you seen due to swimming pool accidents in the last year, she told me 6, it was very tragic, several suffered permanent brain damage,
then I asked her about injures from party balloons, cleaning products and peanut allergies, apparently many more kids are killed or injured by those things in the last year as well

so, then I asked her how many kids with gunshot wounds she had seen in the last 10 years?

she literally turned her back on me and walked away mumbling something

point is that there is no cure for stupid
