Ok, how does it work? Does the little critter hang upside down?

the weight will hold it right side up.

I guess I'm still missing it, how does the critter stand upright relative to the weight?

The rod slides thru the "bottom tail" and then the weights slides on the the tail. Its pretty fun and not to expensive. Holds up well to .22 and .223
.40 leaves a small hole. lol

You put on the crossbar of the spinner target stand. Gravity draws the weight down and keeps the target upright. Impact spins target, centrifical force rotates it back to reset position.
