    Mossberg 500 receiver shell holder

I want to get one of those shell holders that goes on the receiver and hold 5-6 shells. I was wondering how they attach and about how much they cost. What models are best?

    Thanks.

Mine attaches with screws in the reciever housing. It came on the gun when I bought it so I am not certain if they are stock screws or something that came with the holder. I do know if you overtighten them it will bind the action. That and it adds a bunch of extra weight. I believe mine is a Tacstar. It holds the shells no problem under recoil.

Also remember that they don't fit with the stock pump handle as they overlap the receiver when pumped back

I have an aftermarket pistol grip pump on it, I think it should fit, if not I am thinking of getting a regular foreend back on it.

The pistol grip ones usually work, is yours made by tac star?

On a 500? Mine is all stock sans the side saddle and there is no interference.

I think that is only the case with the Remington 870, not the Mossberg 500/590.

I have a Mesa Tactical side saddle/picatinny rail combo that I love. It installed quite easily (on my 870) by using the included pins to push out (and replace) the two pins in the receiver - took about two minutes! The thing is made of aluminum and it's rock solid. It threw a little red dot sight on the top rail and it's my current HD shotgun... I'm assuming the installation is very similar for the 500.

The one I looked at replaced the pin for the trigger guard and the screw that you can see in the receiver with the action open with a nut and bolt. My 500 came with a "field" pump handle that overlaps the receiver when it is back meaning I cannot use the six shell sidesaddle yet.

Here is mine. I forgot who made it but it serves it purpose well. As far as I can tell there is only one screw holding it on the ejection port side. It's an allen head.
