New Guy looking for protocol to buy--

    Howdy All--

New here. Looking to buy some good stuff. Can someone give me a link or basic advice on how the typical deal works?

Do you guys use paypal with each other and then the seller ships to an FFL dealer? Obviously face-to-face is best, but what if that is not possible? How do buyers get to inspect the guns first? Or is it all a risk?

What is the average fee for the FFL dealer stuff when it is a private party assist?

I searched for this, but could not find it. Sorry for the elementary request. Thanks

Face to face ("FTF") is the best way. When you do this, you can inspect the gun at the agreed upon gun store before you buy it (bring cash - no checks). Make sure the agreed upon gun store will, in fact, transfer the gun without incident (some gun stores are stupid). It is assumed that any FTF deal is conditional until you have a chance to inspect the gun in person and it meets with your satisfaction (I always put this in any offer I make). But do not waste a guy's time. If he (or she) discloses certain defects, scratches, etc. in the posting, then do not expect (or object to) the gun not being perfect. But DO check for tolerances, wiggle, and overall "wear" of the critical components which one cannot capture readily in a photograph. If you like the gun after the inspection, then hand the cash to the seller and begin the gun transfer process paperwork and your DROS. Be sure to give the seller "props" on iTrader if things went well.

Hey, thanks. How do you guys go about verifying the seller is the owner? A stolen gun, or any nonsense would be discovered after the seller has the cash and the 10 day wait is underway?

Unlike a car with a title and ID, what is the safe way for a buyer to do his due-dilligence? Will a FFL dealer "check" the legality of the firearm while-you-wait?

I cant believe everybody is doing this on the honor system?

I've purchased (PPT) my fair share of firearms from members on this forum. I've never had a problem.

For a person to knowingly sell (PPT) a stolen gun is felony stupid! Sure they might get my money upfront but I can assure you they will get arrested, jailed and convicted! Plus I'd either get my money back from the crook via the criminal court case or small claims court.

        Of course "Carveat Emptor".

Do your homework, check / ask for references, communicate. If you get a "bad vibe" about the deal, don't purchase the gun & explain why you didn't to the seller.

Thanks. I will find my comfort level and system to do these transactions, and then I will start stocking my safe. This site is awesome. Glad I was referred here!

          Thanks again.
