The dovetail is problematic for many optics. Depending on the type of optic you want to mount, you might consider converting to a Picatinny scope base:

"Show me a young conservative and I'll show you a man without a heart. Show me an old liberal and I'll show you a man without a brain." - Sir Winston Churchill

"I would remind you that extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice! And let me remind you also that moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue!" - Senator Barry Goldwater

bigthaiboy - where did you find that awesome scope mount? I saw one like that on rimfirecentral, and never found a source!!!
Does it allow you to see iron sites? No scope is gonna move on that bugger... And while I'm on it - what kinda scope / model - Simmons??

I used to have a pair of 1" dovetail scope mounts on there but they kept moving down the dovetail rail, so I changed to the one-piece scope mount.

You know what you were saying about airsoft scope mounts earlier? This thing mounts on solid. It's not slipping on the dovetail any time soon. Bought it from here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWAX:IT

The scope is a Simmons Blazer 3-9x40, $28 on sale at K-Mart. It's an OK scope for the money. The scope mount is see-thru, but the Marlin rear sights are far too low and close to the front of the mount to use it.

Life can make you do many things, even kiss a man with a runny nose.

You might try contacting Summit Gun Broker. He has a bunch of Marlin rimfires he's moving, most of which are apparently Marlin 60s and all of them cheaper than Bud's price:

Whatever you do, NEVER take the trigger module assembly apart. Spray it clean, then blow it out.

Those little super tiny "C" clips will fly across the room to be forever lost.
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself...A murderer is less to fear. The traitor is the plague."......Cicero

Trigger not resetting is not uncommon. It's the disconnecter spring.
Rather easy to replace. These guns are designed to come apart with not much effort. Just about anybody can fix 'em - they're ridiculously simple. Instructions are online if you look around, and the springs can be had via midway or brownell's for a buck or two.

Trigger guard might be a little more to replace money wise, but would be even easier.

I do agree that the older versions are a bit better though.

I bought a pistola from him - my first out of state FFL buy. Piece of cake. The guy has the patience of Job. Let's just say I emailed him a few too many times, worrying about this or that. Mark is awesome. And those prices justify FFL and shipping. COOOOOL.

              Thanks for link.

I bought my model 60 about 20 some years in K-mart with a scope and case for $ 99.00.
                Still shoots great.

Get the Birch version of it. Looks so much classier and you can hand it down for generations.

Got an email from a seller that said:

"I have some late model guns with the bolt hold open for $95 or some without for $65 to $75."

Can someone explain this to me? What does that mean?

I think he means the late model rifles have a feature that holds that bolt open when the magazine is empty and/or after last round is fired.

But, IIRC on the ALL of them, you can manually rack the bolt back and lock it.
Pull back bolt and push bolt into the gun will lock it back...

Nice for assuring gun in safe mode before loading boolits into tube.... Tube is pretty close to barrel on older models....

                        .

Older models don't have the last shot hold open.
You should double check to see if he's talking about model 60s or model 99s though. I thought all model 60s had the last-shot-hold. Model 99s however do not. That was one of the distinct upgrades if i'm not mistaken. I could be wrong though.

Pre-'84 Marlin 60s has a manual bolt open (ie. you can manually hold the bolt open by pulling back the bolt and then pressing in the cocking handle) for safe-mode.

                              hmm. okay.
That does make sense - my 70P worked like that as well.

The 99s don't have either. If you want the bolt to stay open, use a chamber flag - or an empty .223 casing.

So is it JUST a safety mechanism? Bolt stays open when there are no rounds in the tube? Or is there another advantage?
