Best place in San Diego to sight in

looking for a good place to sight in my rifle. I prefer the place to be easy to get to. Orosco is out of the question. the only place I am currently aware of with a 100 yard range is P2000 in el cajon but they charge per hour!

any help would be appreciated, I dont mind a god drivr but just as long as it is on paved roads or easy access dirt roads.

South Bay Rod and Gun Club

Great place with great people. A year membership is only $75 and the rifle range goes out to 300 yards.

      SBRG +1

My favorite place to shoot in SD by far. Rifle range has stands at 50/100/200/300 yards. Firing line has a bench for each lane and a roof overhead. There's a spotting scope mounted to one of the posts if you don't have your own. Day pass is $20, targets are 50 cents ea.

Just be careful about the questions you answer when you go thru the BP check point on the way home.

Can you elaborate? I haven't been to SBRG (yet) but have been through that checkpoint several times with no issues (admittedly, not carrying any guns at the time).

I have gone through numerous BP checkpoints with guns in the car (going to/from Vegas and AZ on the 15 and 8) and never had any problems. One agent even asked about rifle cases that were visible in the back seat but they never seemed bothered or concerned.

Just curious if that CP is more sensitive due to the proximity of the border..?

The wind picks up in the afternoon at SBR&G, you may want to check the weather report or use the 100yd indoor range at P2K

I've never had any issues, always tell them where I've been if they ask. Always have gottan a smile or grin, and a "go ahead".....the guys at that CP have always been cool.

I thought a CGer had a run in with BP at that check point when coming back from some BLM land out that way. It's been many months ago though so I may be confusing facts. I still wouldn't volunteer info about guns in the vehicle and keep the cases out of sight if you can.....but that's just me. I dont like to invite probing questions and unnessecary scrutiny if at all possible.

When asked where I'm coming from or going to I choose to be a little more vague. I wouldn't say "the rifle range"....I would say "From Dulzura". That is if you choose to answer those questions at all.

since afternoon winds may be an issue, would it be better to go earlier in the am?

Parking is right above the firing line. Grab your stuff and shuttle it down in mulitple trips if need be. You can use the stairs or walk down the hill depening on your needs/preferences.

I haven't had any problems with BP - they tend to ask questions like "how was the shooting today" and "what do you have back there?" (Me. .308 AR with an ACOG) "Awesome!"

I use P2K's indoor ranges for zeroing (25/50/100 yards), then I go out to SBRGC to shoot 200 and 300 yards.
