Is the ruger Airhawk a POS?

I got one of these from a friend, and decided to sit down this afternoon and try to sight in the scope. At first I was going for the gusto (I thought) and sighting it in at 40 yards thinking it would be accurate. Well it wouldn't even group at 4o yards. So I brought the target in to about 30 yards, and saw improvement (most shots were hitting paper at least) but still inconsistent and at best maybe 7 inch groups. Anyways I got a little discouraged and just put stuff away. I'm no sharp shooter and I dont have a ton of time logged behind a scope, but I know I have shot tight groups before with .22's and such. Am I just to far from the target? Can the airhawk not maintain accuracy at 30 yards? Also I was shooting .177 Daisy pointed tip pellets. Are they too crappy? Any help would be great.

YES. The zero wonders and minute of pie plate at 25 yards is doing well. It is, hands down, the worst pellet gun I've ever shot. They are absolute garbage.

Are you using the stock scope it comes with? I know the stock scope that came with the one i have was a POS.

First, the Ruger Airhawk is Chinese made, Ruger just slaps their name on it so don't expect too much quality, although it should be performing better than you're describing.

Second, this may sound obvious and don't be offended by this suggestion, but make sure the scope is on correctly. This is a beginner's mistake, however, we were all beginners at one point or another.

Third, shooting pellet guns can be harder than shooting the .22's you're used to. The trigger pull is MUCH heavier on pellet guns and it can make your barrel jump quite a bit more than a .22 ever would. Try and steady the gun on some sandbags if you haven't already when trying to zero it in.

        Hope that helps! Good luck!

Oh ya. Make sure the screws that hold the barrel in place are nice and tight (and much everything else for that matter). Might wanna get some blue loctite to if you prefer to shoot it more than work on it. I wasted an hour attempting to sight my airhawk only to find that the barrel was wiggling all over the place. It shot like a champ after fixing that.

good suggestions thanks! And I didn't put the scope on, but i'll check to make sure it is on correctly! No one made mention of the pellets i was using so I'm assuming those are ok? I used to use them in my crappy little daisy pump, but didn't know if I should get something nicer for this air rifle
