    Light striking 45

My 45 had a problem where it would fire the first round, but then when I tried to fire the second round, the firing pin would barely strike the primer, not hard enough to go off. I had a buddy of mine take it down and clean the firing pin, and he ended up losing it (the firing pin).

Obviously I will be getting a new firing pin, but he said it seemed to him like maybe the spring on the hammer wasn't strong enough. I can't think of a reason that the first round would fire but not the next unless maybe the gun wasn't cocking itself all the way. Any advice?

Oh, it's a ParaOrdnance 1911 if that matters.

    Thanks.

Did you put oil on your firing pin or did it get in the firing pin channel? Oil + heat in the channel can jam the pin enough to cause light strikes.

        A couple of questions?

        Reloads?
How long ago were the firing pin and recoil springs changed out?

Nope, some speer lawman. Don't know about the time pin and springs were changed, just got the gun. It was doing this for the previous owner, but sounded like it should be an easy fix so I picked it up. I am going on the assumption that the pin/springs are stock.

Tyrist, does that mean I shouldn't oil the firing pin? My buddy cleaned it all out for me and oiled it up, and the problem still persisted. I assume that the few shots fired out of it after that would not have generated the necessary heat to cause the trouble you mention.

          Thanks.

Put the gun together put a pencil in the barrel point it up and pull the trigger if it isn't shooting in the air 2 to 4 feet you are having a problem with the gun.

Being a Para your firing pin safety might not be disengaging completly.

Clean the safety hole real good.

Take the top end off, lower the hammer by hand and pull the trigger the little arm should be sticking up to disengage the FPS. If not you can put in a little bend for a more positive disengagement.

Basic stuff you can check. Let us
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

When I hit the lotto I'm only shooting factory.

Thanks, I'll order a new firing pin and let you know how it goes.
