What happens to the brass at Metcalf?

Ok, so I confess I am a brass hound. So a couple of weeks ago I was at Metcalf. While I was waiting for the cease fire, I started rummaging through one of the brass buckets for a caliber I reload. After I changed my target I came back and the bucket was empty. So I went to the next one. Lo and behold the same thing happened. Nobody said anything to me but it was apparent that one of the range folks came by and emptied the buckets I had been looking through.

So my question is this. Does anyone know what happens to the brass at Metcalf? Does the county have a contract with someone? Or do the range folks sell it for their coffee fund? Or do they just dispose of it as scrap?

You should ask before you go rummaging through the brass bucket. I don't know about Metcalf but at a lot of ranges, once the brass goes into the bucket it belongs to the range.

My experience at Metcalf ... The RO's empty the buckets every so often ... I've asked if I can pick out brass and they said it was fine ... I'm sure they recycle the brass one way or another by either reloading for personal use or scrap ...

If you are not shooting, you have free admission to the range to watch. I've seen a group of people come in near closing time to sweep, take up all the brass, and simply leave.

I see many old timers there looking for brass, they shoot a little but not much.

Seeing how it's county owned and run I don't think they care about the brass.

                This^^^^

Most of the time one of the RO's will go through the buckets looking for brass, but if they start to get full they will empty the buckets.

I know people enjoy picking up brass at the range thinking they are getting something for nothing, but be careful.

I leave lots of 223 on the ground when I shoot, because I've reloaded it 7-10 times already.

Im just saying you never know where the brass came from or how many times it's been reloaded already
