Interesting Discussion at San Jose Gun Shop

I had a very interesting discussion at a San Jose gun shop today. I was looking at Acogs they had in the case, and I asked to see a couple different models outside in the sun.
The gentlemen took me outside and started showing me the different models, and soon after asked me what type of rifle it would be going on. I told him it would be going on an Armalite(and before I could tell him it was on an off list lower) he said..."those are illegal in california buddy, you committed a felony". I said hold up, its on an Off list lower. He told me it did not matter, and even if It was, if I assembled it I would be considered an "arms maker".
I tried explaining to him about the use of the Radlock bullet button, and how it is considered an "attachable" magazine rather than a "detachable" magazine. I also explained that it needed a tool to remove the magazine. He said that it did not matter, and that as soon as I pulled the magazine out it was an assault weapon. At that point I just tried to explain some truth, but he wasnt having it. I said, "what about all of the guys on Calguns who have built rifles on OLL". He stated without hesitation "The guys on Calguns are a bunch of radicals"

My mind is still spinning. Needless to say, I did not buy an Acog.

      Sportsmen's Supply or Costello's?

Been a while (a few years) since I've been to both but out of all the SJ gun shops that come to mind, those two seems to be the most... quaint?

Print out Turner's weekly ad and give it to him.

Weird, Sportsmen's Supply used to sell MAK-90s, Bushmasters , Stey AUGs, etc, during the 90's (bought my Norinco SKS & MAK90 from there).
You'd think they would jump at the chance to sell OLLs.

Dammit, I was going to say Sportmen's Supply! Hehe, did you notice the complete upper they have displayed in their front counter? Hypocrites. IN another year or so when STILL nobody is arrested for having a legal configured OLL they will start selling them too.

I think most of the reason they spaz out like they do is because they are jealous of places like Irvington Arms and BAGV making money hand over fist selling OLL's. Hell even Kerley's has a few now, and I did see one in a display case at Reed's a couple of months ago.

I couldn't take the paranoia I see at Target Master's and Sportsmen's Supply, stopped going to them quite some time ago.

Oh and I love the gun vault! Thanks for the heads up.

Hahaha, that's good stuff! Want some AW flowcharts to take in so he can point out specifically how we're all wrong? And as an added bonus, theSacPD Memos, so he can call the DOJ and tell them that the Sacramento PD is officially training their officers not to arrest these "radical" criminals

Of course, there's just a bit of info for him to read here...if you were ever to convince him to read anything from this crazy radical website where people painstakingly research the letter of the law with intent to not break it!

Called it. Hahaha! It's unfortunate too, one of my buddies is friends with the owner (or one of them), and by all accounts he's supposed to be a good guy. That shop is just a little too rednecky for my taste.

The last time I went in there was about 4-5 years ago, and they were trying to sell off the Wolf 7.62x39 20-round boxes for something outrageous (like double the cost). I walked out laughing, never to return.

They also sold one of my friends an AR-50 (right before the ban) that was FUBAR. Took them several months to make it right.

Not to derail from the original topic, but I know Sportmen's Supply charges a $30 "demo" fees when you do a PPT DROS with them. On top of the normal $35.

Sell them to the police? Oh that's a good one. The thing about sportsmen's I finally got sick of is the attitude they seem to have that if you disagree with their point of view you must be up to no good and you're taking a BIG risk. FUD FUD FOS FUD! Ugh!

What is demo fee? Because the buyer has to demonstrate how to safely operate a handgun? But then that would only apply to handguns?
