    CA legal Siaga help?

Hey everyone! I am interested in purchasing a CA legal Saiga. I just want to know if they are still legal in CA, especially in the LA areas. I was told that they banned Siagas in CA, but I know Atlantic Firearms are selling them and are transferring them to FFL dealers, this could be old news though. So could some please tell me if the law was changed once again. Could someone also show me a link to where I could verify the legality of owning one in CA. If they are legal where would you guys suggest to purchase one around southern CA particularly areas close or nearby LA. Thanks and I would really appreciate it if you guys could help me out.

Russian American Armory (RAA) Saigas are legal in California. They are imported with sporter stocks and no evil features. The guts are still an AK. They come in several calibers. I have a few myself.

Atlantic Arms is one way to get one. Or, just find a black rifle friendly FFL in your area that stocks them. Either way, you'll have to find a black rifle friendly FFL that is willing to do the online transfer if you decide to go with someone like Atlantic Arms. I'm sure someone in the LA area will chime in where to find one (I'm in N. Cal.

Oh, if you're looking at something like a Saiga 12, it will have to come to California with a mag lock attached.

If you are ever up in the Central Valley check out PRK arms. They are a black rifle dealer in Fresno. http://www.prkarms.org/

They would also be a good resource to bounce questions off of if anything else.

They are also on calguns so go look them up.

Russian American Armory Saiga = Legal
Kalashnikov USA Saiga = Illegal Assault Weapon (Kalashnikov USA hasn't imported the rifle for several years now)

For the people who told you they were banned, that is likely the source of their confusion.

Alright, thank you everyone for the intel. I'm going to start looking around for a Saiga now, but if anyone have anymore suggestions I would be more than glad to hear it.

Oh and jben how does yours shoot, what are your pros and cons? I've been trying to decide on weather to go with the 7.92 or the .223. Is it true that the .223 is more accurate?

Try out rifle gear in Costa Mesa also if you don't mind the drive. I got my Saiga 7.62x39 from them.

                  I have a 7.62x39, .308 and a 12g. I like them all a LOT.

Pros: Relatively cheap guns that love to eat cheap ammo. They go bang every time. I haven't had any issues at all. I may have gotten lucky but all three have triggers that are way better than I expected. Fairly smooth, easy pull and a nice crisp break. As far as accuracy, I'm leaving them with iron sights and they're as accurate as I can be (not sure if that's saying much ). Finally, don't let the stocks fool you. They really are AKs made in the IZHMASH factory.

Cons: I really can't think of any except maybe the cheap finish and the safety that leaves a big scratch on the gun the first time it's moved. Not a big deal to me. I have a touch-up pen and/or black paint.

I've stayed away from the 5.56/.223 because I have ARs and other guns for that round.

My Saiga 5.45. Ammo is cheap, around $130 shipped per 1080 rounds. I can shoot it at about 1-1.5 MOA pretty easily.

Thanks again fellas! Those are some awesome Saigas by the way, makes me really want to get one now even more. I'm still undecided on which one is going to be suitable for me. I really want a Saiga for something like survival situation with the most ammo availability. What do you guys think?

I'd get the 7.62 as ammo is cheap and plentiful.

As a side note the "Gun Shop" on Sierra Hwy. in Palmdale has them and they are $458.00 out the door.

wait why are monsterman grips needed on AK pistol grip in Cali? I thought it was just the foreign parts count?

You can't have a detachable magazine and evil features. A pistol grip is an evil feature. A monsterman type grip isn't a pistol grip and you can leave the mag lock off.
