    Winchester Gun safe from Costco

Just thought I'd share this in case anyone else has one of these.
Today my safe wouldn't open when I put my combination in. I knew it was the right combo because it will normally lock you out when you put in the wrong combo 4 times. I tried it a bunch of times and even tried putting a fresh battery in the key pad.
Finally I got online to try to get ahold of the company for help. On the website, they recommended replacing the battery and then letting it sit for a while before trying to open it again. So that's what I did. Lo and behold, it worked. Seems pretty weird but I thought I would pass it on in case it happens to anyone else.
By the way, it's not a very good feeling to know that you can't get to your guns. I was really glad that I had a couple of handguns in gunvaults in other places.
    Cheers.

Main reason I went with an old school dial on my liberty safe. I just don't trust those electronic locks!

Thanks for the heads-up. I was considering picking up an all electronic safe as a second storage unit but was wary of the 'being locked out scenario' you just described. I'm going to switch gears and look for the electonic safe that has a manual option/backup, in case the electronics should get screwy, I can still access with a key. Glad you were able to get back in without having to pry that door opened!

Yeah, if I had it to do over I would find an electronic keypad with a key backup too. Oh well, next time. The price was right though.

YES! I will buy one of these safes and set it in the entry way. When the robbers get tired of trying different combos, they will leave dejected....

Yep had the same issue..when they say fresh battery they mean brand new. If you have on that has never been used sitting in the fridge for a while it won't work. Apparently not enough power to cycle the lock w/out a new one.

That is one thing that deterred me from getting that safe when I saw it. I opted for one with a manual key option just in case.

I just saw this at Costco this past weekend. I did not like the thin steel, electric lock, or wide gaps in the door that facilitate prying.

I have a Cannon never had any problem with the lock and I only change the battery about once per year. You can't beat the warranty. I had a house fire and the safe had some smoke damage. the replaced the safe no questions asked and even paid for the shipping.

ive got money on one of the buttons didnt pick up you pressing it. WITH THE SAFE LOCKED OPEN! try the buttons and see if they are picking up you pressing them. could be a sign that your keypad is going south or that there may be an electircal problem with the lock, wires tend to come loose. Do not use "Lithium" batterys or ones that say they are for electronics, for what ever reason safe locks tend to eat those batteries. use the old standby Alkaline batteries.

I know the safe is Chinese made but is the electronic lock made in China also? I have heard of this problem before with these safes.
