To Shot - what really happend from NRA News

Day one: Practice on 4 rifles with 8 individuals.

Each person only gets 5 bullets of practice.

Practice was cut in half so only two shooters out of the team got practice on each rifle - and not the same two shooters. The practice was shooting into a setting sun.

So they had to pool their dope as to how the rifle shot - and had to trust the dope the other guy gave them. would you trust someone else dope on iron sights -- one of the rifles shot 4 minutes low

On the test day the blue team took 15 shots to hit the 100 yd target with the 1903.

This game is a little rough.

I wish they would have told us all this during the show. I don't think they even said how big the targets where. The ones at 600 looked bigger then the ones at 200 and 400 to me. I wanted to like the show but there was just to much reality show crap. They didn't even say what caliber they where using in the 700s. I want to know everything down to what kind of ammo they where using. I will probably give it another chance but I wasn't to impressed with the first episode.

Seems like a lot of people are looking for ways to blame anything other than the guy behind the gun.

I also found it telling that he didn't embrace the opportunity to prove his skills in the elimination. If you are that good then bring it. Don't hide behind excuses.

It's not really a gun show.

They're not going to get into all this gun porn that only a small niche of the audience is going to get. That's not what the show is about. It's a reality/contest show about accuracy overall. It's more about the individuals then the weapons.

If you're looking for them to just sit around and talk about guns the whole time - you're going to be sadly.

Also - The targets at 600 yards were probably much bigger then the ones at 200 or 400. Because the same 1moa accuracy that will give you a nice tight group at 100 yards, opens up to a 6 inch pattern at 600 yards.

Ever see the targets that 1000 yard shooters use? The world record at 1000 yards is 4.2 inches. That's a 0.4011 moa group. Most people can only shoot that on the internet....

I thought it was really telling when during the practice for the Elimination - that kid was telling the spotter where the shots went. Mike had to ask the spotter where he was, but the kid could call his shots. I knew right then and there who was going to win that one.

mike seeklander hasn't had much rifle training according to his performance with the Rem 700. He even had a funny way of holding the rifle.

I knew it wouldn't go into lots of details but they didn't even show what kind of groups they where shooting.

I know how MOA works but shouldn't they at least tell us how big the target they are shooting at is? I mean it would take 2 seconds to say and then people could get and idea of how good the contestants where really shooting. When they where practicing for the final challenge and the guy shot the smiley face I don't think they even said how far that was.

I suppose - I guess i just never expected to get that kind of info in the first place. probably a good 80-90% of the audience isn't even going to know what it means anyways.

The way I look at it is - they're showing guns on a mainstream TV Channel in a realistic light - and not in a context that has to do with banning them. I'm not going to ***** too much...

Yeah its definitely nice to see any show completely about guns. I just thought it was kinda boring. Even if I don't watch the show at least it will show gun owners in a good light.

Small steps ladies and gentlemen. It is probably a good thing that we find it boring as the less initiated probably find it interesting. I only wish that they had more females to help pique the lady's interest. I found my wife watching a rerun of it yesterday and she seemed interested. Perhaps after the show is done an 'Amateur Challenge' at your local range might dovetail nicely and provide a public outreach opportunity.

Like was stated before, anything that shows firearms in a non-negative light is a win for us. Maybe one of the outdoor channels could put together something that us CalGun'rs find more technically interesting. Just my $.02

I had hope for this show but now I can't really say I've never watched a reality show

Yeah, it was pretty obvious who had the game down. At one point the spotter reached over and turned Mike's turret. WTF was that about? I would never let someone else adjust my sights. I could do less with the "reality" crap and just MORE SHOOTING! I want to see the really odd stuff. The elimination crap is lame.
