Can I be in possession of my wife's guns?

Not sure where to put this so it is going here.

I live with my GF. She keeps her guns in her safe and I keep mine in my safe. Yes, I know that I am lucky that she shoots. As my girlfriend she cannot "loan" me her handguns for the day to go to the range, correct? When I say "loan" I mean just "take them with no paperwork give them back in 3 hours when you get home"

We will soon be getting married (44 years old. I am allowed). Once we are married can I be in possession of her guns without her being with me? I assume yes. Or at least "yes" makes sense.

I cannot find the answer on CalGuns wiki or The Google. I look at the DOJ site too.

I am asking because I always want to take a couple of her's regardless if she is with me. I just don't want to loose them due to illegal possession if the question were to ever come up.

    Thanks!!!!!!

She can loan a handgun to you for up to 30 days at a time. Once you are married, they could be viewed as "community property" and therefore, they would be partially yours.

as long as you have an HSC, your GF or wife can lend you handguns for up to 30-days at a time.

12078(d)(1) Subdivision (d) of Section 12072 shall not apply to the infrequent loan of firearms between persons who are personally known to each other for any lawful purpose, if the loan does not exceed 30 days in duration and, when the firearm is a handgun, commencing January 1, 2003, the individual being loaned the handgun has a valid handgun safety certificate.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

You can borrow them now or when you are married as long as you have her permission and you are not a prohibited possesor then it is not a problem.

Great. Thank you all for clearing that up. I thought she could only "loan" me long guns.

Thanks Ke6 for finding it! I looked right past it.

I'll just make sure my HSC is renewed in March!
