Get in trouble for selling off too many guns?

An FFL once told me that BATF and local PD's frown upon non-FFL holders that sell too many of their guns in ashort amount of time. I.e. BATF wonder's why you're not an FFL and the cops wonder if you're a straw buyer. Anyone ever hear of this? And if this is true, what's the rule of thumb threshold for setting off alarm bells?

The strawman concept in CA is pretty defunked if you're transferring them legally.

I can not see any problem arising from someone legally selling off a bit of their collection in a short time.

        I would think so too....

but I recall reading in the Sacramento Bee an article about the SacPD chief stating to the city council at a meeting around New Year's that SacPD takes interest in people who buy or sell too many guns at one time. Not sure if that's BS or if I'm remembering the article wrong...

the same city council that wants ammo bans and other rediculous laws? it;s only a straw buy if the person taking possession did not go through DROS at an FFL. the cops can call you any name you want but if you are doing things by the book they can't touch you(they can harass you and your neighbors and work though, so YMMV)

The California penal code does limit the number of firearms sales that an unlicensed individual can make in one year. I'm too lazy to look it up right now, but I think it is 5 handgun transactions. Each transaction can involve any number of handguns. For rifles and shotguns the penal code says something like infrequently. I can't remember how infrequent is defined, but it is in the penal code.
