    DROS technical questions

So I did a PPT for a pistol yesterday (April 12th) and did not look over my copy of the DROS until just a few minutes ago. I noticed that the zipcode entered for my address is incorrect. It is my old zipcode that is on my DL but not the zipcode on my change of address card. The other thing is that the address listed does not show my apartment number.

So for those with experience or the knowledge, espeically those folks that are FFLs, will this delay or cause my DROS to be rejected? Should I call the dealer first thing in the morning and ask them to correct this?

I'm unsure about the ZIP - that might affect your DROS or cause an outright rejection. You could call the FFL and see if that is one of the fields that they can alter at a later point - I'm not sure about that.

The apartment number not showing should be irrelevent.

It means nothing. Don't worry about it. From experience in having done the wrong things on DROS, unless they screw up your DOB and/or driver's license number, you should be fine.

What about ramifications of mis-entering firearm serial number?

That'd be a hard mistake to make, since they require you to enter the serial, then enter it again for verification when you submit the DROS.

LOL on the serial no. Its happened to me on a consignment firearm, and they've just amended the DROS with the correct one, printed out the DROS correction, and then issued the firearm to me so I didn't have to wait another 10 days.

But does CA DOJ keep a record of stolen firearms serial no.s? If the serial no. is one digit off, and then after the 10 day wait, they just correct it and you walk out with it? Another example of why our CA laws are silly...

I guess they treat Wes's DROS different than ours. The single most cause for DROS rejections we get is if your address doesn't match the one on record at the DMV. I doubt the apt. no. will be a problem but a mismatched zipcode might be flagged. BTW, the next common rejection is an expired DL.

You can call the FFL and see if it got rejected. We usually get the rejections within a business day after the submittal, two at most.

If it's a pistol, you need proof of residency for the address on the DROS.

I had a cop DROS to his department. Before I realized he could do that, I told him he had to have proof of residency showing he resided at the department. He came back a couple days later with his vehicle registration showing his vehcile registered at the department. It was never rejected.

I have had expired DLs rejected (oops, I check that more carefully now), but I have mispelled names, addresses, and everything else and never had them rejected. Mispelling names is easy to do.

Well I called the FFL this morning and they told me it "shouldn't" be a problem. Hopefully when my cool off period is over, I can pick up my new pistol without issue.
