Can anyone recommend a good BB Gun for about $100?

    Hey guys,

Not really sure which forum this belonged in... but I felt general gun discussions fit the bill.

Anyways, of ALL people, my mom decided she wanted to get a BB gun... so I figured I'd ask all of you gun-nuts for recommendations.

I shot a Crosman Powermaster 66... and I've got to say I'm not a huge fan at all. It might just have been that particular gun, but the gun was shooting all over the place. I could never get the scope zero-ed in right because it seemed as if the point of impact was random.

    Thanks in advance!

As far as BB guns go, I've never seen one that was anything near what I'd call "accurate." If you want something with at least some accuracy, you may look into getting a pellet rifle. In my experience they are much more precise, but they are usually single-shot and break action. Big 5 or walmart will have them in or near the shooting sections.

I don't know of any $100 guns that are any good. I have a Crosman also, and it's a POS. I also have a Gamo break action that is much more accurate, but it does take some force to cock the thing. Big 5 usually has those on sale in the $149 range. They do use pellets, but those are better IMO - more accurate and less prone to ricochet.

What is your mom going to be using this for?

RWS Diana air rifles are some of the best IMO. My Dad gave me a model 48 when I was 12-13 and I used and abused it for a bunch of years. Last year I went to their house and it was still in their garage (a little rusty but working fine). Took it home refinished the stock, stripped the metal and rust and reblued, replaced seal and main spring and now it sits in my safe for when my kid is old enough to shoot. 15-16 years old and good as new. But for something around $100 Gamo big cat or hunter sport. Google is your friend

I had a beeman that was like 130 on sale from 160 at big 5, came with a scope and it was relatively accurate. At about 30-40 yards you could hit a squirrel, at 50-60 yards it became difficult. I had the scope dialed in about as good as i could. The triggers are heavy as hell though, but i've never felt a bb gun with a good trigger.

I just noticed that Big 5 currently has a Beeman on sale for $75 (normally $99), and a Gamo with 4x scope on sale for $129 (normally $249). Both are break-barrels, for use with pellets.

What's she want it for? If she really wants a BB gun, just to plink around the yard, why not a Red Ryder?

A lot of people say a .22 rifle with a long barrel, and some .22 Long CB ammo is just as quiet as a pellet gun.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. She'd be mainly using it to plink in the back yard. She's lucky enough to have an enormous back yard and its perfect for shooting some soda cans and what not. I wish we could fire some .22s... but its smack dab in the middle of Yorba Linda... .

Oh, and I'd love to shoot pellet guns... but she has a few dogs and she's worried they might like playing with lead pellets.

I'll look into the Big 5 Gamo's this weekend. I just want something that is at least consistent enough to hit soda cans from 30 yards. I had a crosman as a kid, and I remember being able to make those shots very easily. I either had a much better gun back then... or my eyesight is going down the crapper at age 25. I hope its the former...

Edit: I just realized non-lead pellets are available. Looks like I've got a lot of researching to do...

Older crossmans were better than todays versions. If you're looking for accuracy&power, just pick up a gamo big cat for under 130 at wallyworld. If you're looking for something up to 100bucks, I'd recommend a crosman 2100. It's got power and decent accuracy with pellets for around 60bucks. Forget the daisy stuff, They suck IMO. If you're just looking for staight plinking, try wally worlds. I've just seen crosman 760's for 16bucks, or pick up a red ryder.

I'm with ^^ I have the crosman but it sits in the garage since I have big boy guns now. crosman 2100 was a decent one. with like 13 pumps it had the same fps as a slow .22 round. I also enjoyed the red ryder, not much damage, but it shot where we pointed it. the red ryder did ricochet a lot though... the crosman is still around $60-$75 online last I checked... and the r.r. is $25-$30 at wally.

Had one of these as a kid - got into untold amounts of trouble with it. Pumpmaster 760, about $40.

plus one on the pellet gun. got the Big 5 Ruger blackhawk with scope and fiber optic sites for $129. much more accurate than a BB gun.

How much does the CO2 cost? Was thinking of getting one of those for $40.

Can't shoot real guns in the backyard, unless I want to kill the neighbors.
