If I were you, I'd drive the guns out. Option B, I'd ship them to myself in CO but you're looking at overnight shipping for the hand guns, $$$.

I don't think I'd care either way about de-registration...I moved about half my handguns to ID, the others remain in CA; I have no desire to communicate with the DOJ. Ymmv.

The only thing I can think of in Colorado is the larger cities have tighter restrictions but nothing like California in general and get your driver's license changed so they are not thinking you are a california resident trying to buy guns out of state. I have ranch property and everything but it is my driver's license that screws me over each time I go back. Used to be if they knew you it did not matter but things have tightened up. You'll think you are a kid in a candy shop when you see all the choices you hjave.

I'm from Denver, it's actually a pretty cool city. Colorado is a beautiful state, especially if you're into outdoor activities.

Get a new driver's license as soon as you move, then apply for your CCW as soon as you get your driver's license.

What should you buy first? If it's legal under federal law it's probably available for purchase in Colorado. I'm not sure how cool they are about NFA stuff, but it's gotta be more relaxed than it is around here.

ahhhh yes colorado. Such a beautiful state. I go to Breckenridge every year in Feb for skiing love it there. Love the snow and the temps in the mountains all year round. Colorado is probably one of my favorite states. Good luck man and have fun.

After you establish residency in another state, you can use the Notice of No Longer in Possession to "un-register" your handguns with CA DOJ BOF.

The issue is whether you want to "Unregister" them with california in case you ever decide to come back and we are worse than we are now. At least those would be grandfathered and you should not have any problem since they were once legal and registered. It isn't going to harm you to leave them on the books here because it means you can get them back in if you ever have to. I am in the San Luis valley outside of Moffet and I love it when I can get back there.
