    Quad rail?

What is the point on the quad rail? Seems almost 75% of the pics with quad rails have covers on them and the only thing mounted is a front BUIS. Do people mainly do this for looks?

Im not bashing I like how they look but I am trying to decide if i should go with rails or the MOE grip. I really like how the MOE looks but would like to know if I would NEED a quad for anything.

forward pistol grip is a good one! some guys mount lights, lasers, bi-pods, red dots etc. it's good to have and be able to add things but don't go crazy buying every accessory you can find.

i have a MOE forend and like it. right now it only has a grippod and M3 flashlight on it and there is plenty of space for more stuff. the magpul rail sections are finally out in different lengths for around $5-10. i think its a good low buck setup.

I have a quad rail only for these two reasons. It does look good, and it has a flat bottom and sides which helps me keep the weapon flat with the horizon. I never liked round hand guards. My FAL has a triangle shaped front hand guard with a flat bottom. Same thing. If I could find a M4 carbine short profile front hand guard that is the same profile of the old full length late 60's triangle hand guard I would probably replace my current quad with it.

I run a forward vertical grip and a flashlight on mine....and like being able to mount a bipod when out shooting.......

I run an AFG on mine. When needed, I run a light. The fact that it's free floated has a greater benefit to me than having all that rail space. I use them vs a free float tube for the most part, for aesthetic reasons.

I have read that the free float helps make the gun more accurate?

I like it because I can attach a foregrip, laser, light, eotech, flare launcher, blender, electric drill, thermometer, ipod, digital camera, coffee maker and whatever else I need.

                Plus it looks cool.

I like my M4 round (oval actually) handguards, but I was considering getting a quadrail for a little while.

                    Two reasons why I didn't:
                    1. The round handguards feel like when I was in the Army and that's what I learned on.
                    2. If I got quadrails, then I'd have to get a bipod. If I got a bipod, I'd have to get a scope. If I got a scope, I'd have to get another sighting scope. If I'd have just spent $1500 on a bipod, scope, and sighting scope, it'd be easy to justify throwing on a laser, forward pistol-grip, and a holographic site...

So, for the sake of my own wallet, I've got round handguards and a flat top with a carrying handle and iron sights =)

my reasons for mounting a 12" free float rail on a carbine length rifle:

                      1. longer reach
                      2. free floating of barrel
                      3. ability to mount anything
                      4. longer reach
                      5. Hide the ugly m4 profile barrel (mine is 14.5") and no more getting your hand burned on the FSB/gas block.

Maybe a little overkill, but I run NTCH, so the longer rail really helps with the longer reach (even with my short arms). Plus the DD Lite rails is super thin and incredibly light, it really feels nice in my arms.

                      YMMV.

When I bought my DDXV it came with a $250 gift card for Daniel Defense so I got an omega rail. Its nice that its free floated but I wouldn't have bought it if I didn't have the gift card. I still haven't mounted anything to it, now I will probably end up spending money on a flashlight mount that I will never use.

Originally designed to allow an IR laser sight to maintain zero and give flexibility on where that sight would be mounted.

Admitedly, looks has a lot to do with why I run them. I do run a vertical grip (as a referance point) and a tactical light on mine. However, the light is not usually mounted on day trips to the range.
