    Rapid Fire Rant

I do most of my shooting now at Burro Canyon and they allow rapid firing. I think it's great that they do because then you can pratice double taps.. quick follow up shots.. have some good old fashioned fun.. etc. However, it almost hurts to watch when the only thing people are hitting is the ground and their target frame. I suppose I don't care if it's safe and they're just wasting (from my perspective) their own money.. but what bothers me is when they start hitting other people's targets and/ or frames! You can't really prove who did what.. but it's generally pretty obvious. I understand accidents happens.. but I would classify it as negligence most of the time. Do they just not know or don't care (almost rhetorical question)? Not trying to sound elitist, but sometimes I think ranges should have a ranking/ qualification system for added privileges. I have to throw that one in the suggestion box.. especially if they get that 500 yd range built

Definitely rude. I've always wanted to attempt bump firing, but I would never try it unless I was the only one shooting.

If its the guy next to you, just take your time and shoot the x-ring out of his target. Then sit back and laugh when he starts showing his buddies how good of a shot he is.

This is why I will never shoot on the rifle line any more. I would rather go shooting with a few friends, split the cost of a TAC range, and not worry about cornholes shooting my water melons on purpose. I hate those idiots!! Not only that but with so many people shooting there now there are many unsafe shooters. If I want to shoot long range, then I wait til I make my way into bakersfield to visit family and go to the range there.

Come out to Burro on the sat the 22nd this month and shoot USPSA, we don't tolerate unsafe gunhandling and fast doubletaps are required.

I have noticed that too. Lots of gang bangers firing AKs from the hip with their "banana clips" hitting everything. Thats why I try to get an end slot if going to the public rfile line, that way I only deal with proraptor throwing AK brass all over me I like the idea of the 500 yard range but the guy told me that it will eat up my two favortie tac ranges and that they are only going to let expensive guns shoot on it. His exact word were "well we'll let people shoot AR's i guess, but nothing under 20" barrel length. Thats just pointless"

Boy How i would love to show him how i can sink 10/10 in the black at 500 with an M4 and irons.

That's a perfect example of why a qualification system makes sense

I wouldn't just single out the gang bangers.. i've seen all sorts of people guilty of RANDOM rapid fire.

I agree with you. Its for saftey if nothing else. I didnt mean to single out one group...well....yes I did...but I agree, there are others that do it to and it pisses me off when they hit my target. Its pretty obvious when I'm shooting 5.56 and when I go look at my target I have .30 cal holes

what is burro's stance on rapid fire anyways? I only went there two times with the first time allowing it and the second time with the RO standing right over us with a megaphone disallowing it. Also I think they're busier now because the next range over in Duarte was shut down (San Gabriel Valley Gun Club). When I go north to visit my parents, it's either Burro or the other one in San Bernadino Co. that I can't remember the name of.

hmm gonna have to talk with the range hands on whats up with the new range. So far I have heard it will be up to 600 yds and should be open in a couple months around June or July. Never heard of any restrictions on who can use the range.

It would be nice to be able to get the OK on rappid fire. I have a lot of guns that are just no fun to shoot slowly (m11/9's are BORING slowfire) but at the same time, my 'spray and pray' groups are usually 10-14 inches across the center of the target, I'm not one of the guys who's all over the range on other peoples targets.

shooting at someone's target is one thing but damaging their frame is another since they have to either replace it or pay burro's fees if it was a rental.

then there is the guys who knock over the bowling pins in shooting at and i just end up shooting it on the side, lot harder for me since im not that great of a shot ( hey i can admit it)

                          Burro Canyon

I see Burro Canyon as a different type of range. It's more for rapid fire and blowing up watermelons. I go there to drool over the rapid fire AKs and ARs as well as rapid fire my own guns. You have to watch your stuff though: I had my eye protection and a multi tool swiped by some swarthy rotund gentlemen, that are all too common there.

Now if I had a $3000 long range precision rifle, I might go to Angeles. There you can fire, swab your barrel, adjust your scope, and look through your spotting scope without all the 7.62X39 hitting you from your neighbor.

Was up at Angeles a week ago Wednesday with a friend. Boneheads on the far end of the pistol/rifle side were doing a LOT of rapid fire. One "banger" started shooting up my friend's and my rifle targets (at 50 yrds) as fast as he could pull the trigger. One round busted my friend's frame, another bounced up and hit the edge of my target. Every other (of the 12+ rounds he shot) missed. We had to talk to the guys to knock that %$#@ off. The RO by the office would repeatedly yell over the loudspeaker "NO RAPID FIRE!!!!!" but never got off his arse to do anything about it. The RO who was actually down at the bench end where all this was happening had his thumb up his bum the whole time as well. I won't even go in to how much steel was sparking off the gongs that night. Jeez-Louise! One of the worst times I've had at Angeles for sure.

The couple of times I went to Burro Canyon, the rapid fire was actually really disturbing to me. In one instance, a gangbanger looking person was holding his pistol with his left hand down by his left hip, and using his right hand to try to pull the trigger as fast as possible, hitting lots of ground all within 20 meters from the line.

                              I go to Angeles. YMMV.
