    Full Auto In Free States

So I've been talking with a friend who now has an official residence in NV. He is wanting to get a bunch of NFA stuff there (and keep it there), and has been talking about a class III dealer in Reno or some place. He said they sell full auto AK's and M16's and the like for 'normal' semi auto prices. I was thinking to myself, being only somewhat versed in NFA law, how can this be? Aren't RDIAS's (pre-1986) the only legal method to own and operate a full auto weapon? And don't they cost $8000+ because there's only a finite amount of them? How can they get away with this? What am I missing? I just wanna make sure I am giving him the correct info.

    Thanks.

He might be talking about post 86 dealer samples. These are MG's manufactured after 86 that can be sold to other NFA dealers or to Law Enforcement agencies.

As you already noted pre-86 transferrable stuff sells for a much higher price.
You think you know, but you have no idea.

Ok, then that confirms what I thought. So that brings up another question: If you YouTube "full auto", a TON of videos come up with newer weapons with full auto capability owned by civies. How the heck are these all being acquired? Are they probably all illegal? HK's, M4's, glocks, AK's, etc. How could these all be aqcuired legally if so many are newer weapons?

Transferable pre-'86 machine guns are pretty much the only one's you'll be able to get without an FFL and SOT. There are a couple FA's under $8k. MACs are about $3500, STENs are pretty cheap too. There's a few others. Transferable AK's and M16s are generally in the $10k-$15k range.

An FFL with an SOT can have post-'86 FA guns, but can only sell them to LEO or .GOV or other FFL's with an SOT that has a demonstration letter. An FFL with an SOT can also manufacture new FA guns. If I recall correctly, they don't even need to get prior approval, just make it, send in the proper form and tax payment.

Something tells me jakethebarber is pretty legit. Many of the others that pop up look like Pre-86 like MG42 etc, and many others look like FFL's.

Right, and just for clarification only Class IIs can sell, Class IIIs can manufacture.
