    The DOJ Lately

They havn't been making much noise as of late. Is jerry brown not worrying about firearms game in this state (which is a good thing)....

Did iggy chin/alison get the boot because of the fiasco they did with the last administration turning the DOJ into a huge joke on the firearms community?

If you don't think they are not making noise read the DSA thread.

That thread was remnants from the last administration under Lockyer.

Iggy Chin is still an administrator for CA DOJ although an advancement in position was in the works the last I heard. As for the rest, I don't really know.

Some of the recent activities of the DOJ (incl. the Modesto AW charge issue) and the confusion over DSA CaliFALs may be a result of the run up & changeover into "Bureau of Firearms".

The DOJ appears to have forgotten it approved the DSA CaliFAL in 2000, and the left hand & right hand don't talk to each other - as we'd been reminding them of its approval (and that for the Barrett M82CA) last year during comment hearing filings.

It certainly gives indications of disorganization and headlessness. I think Randy Rossi is on cruise control to retirement - and that's why (combined with a bum hip) he's let things be somewhat "loosey-goosey" managment-wise, letting Alison throw some weight around the shop. I'm not even sure Rossi is there anymore - he does get LEO 3% pension.

We're all on the same team, I mean, we believe in gun safety and doing everything legal. I know the odds of this happening are zero, but it's a nice thought.
I agree. If they could meet us and "know us" better it could difuse alot of things and perhaps create a better dialogue?

Excuse me for my ignorance, but what is a DOJ?

Never heard of it. Is this something an accessory I should know about? Is this something that is a substitute for the Bullet Button, U-15 Stock, or the Monster-Man Grip?

I did a search using some of the names, variables, and words in this thread and applied a little associative thinking, and found something called BOF.

                          .

I don't buy that renaming from Division to Bureau is any kind of demotion. The FBI is not FDI... and FBI divisions are smaller segments of the whole. Maybe DOJ FD wanted to sound more official like FBI or BATF.

And as for the boffers, nothing has changed. Still much division internally, with the same names and polictical players in charge. But from what I understand, internal strife has been reduced, as staffers who have opposed the management have been marginalized. The fact is, is that things have not changed since Brown became AG, that the boffers have renewed their campaign of FUD.

The DSA thing is NOT merely a Northern vs. Southern DOJ miscommunication. It is new boffer internal policy that came down from Sacto bofffers.

They're also not worried about changing their positions. They are enforcement and are allowed to change their positions, regardless of prior opinion. They can do whatever they want, and they know it. It will take a suit filed and lots of money spent to prove them wrong on a case by case basis, and they know that this gives them a pretty wide path to pick and choose however they see fit.

Don't think for once they don't realize what they're doing, and the fact that their powers allow them such options until someone has a lot of money to spend and a lower court ruling where they just concede one case and continue on with their agenda.

And just because there haven't been any new memos or further action on their proposed regulations does not mean they haven't been very busy...

                              For grins and giggles

From the BOF home page (My emphasis):
The Bureau of Firearms serves the people of California through education, regulation, and enforcement actions regarding the manufacture, sales, ownership, safety training, and transfer of firearms. Bureau of Firearms staff will be leaders in providing firearms expertise and information to law enforcement, legislators, and the general public in a comprehensive program to promote legitimate and responsible firearms possession and use by California residents.
