    Motorcycle & Rifle Transport?

I am wanting to purchase a rifle that is far away and want to use my motorcycle for the fun and gas saving aspect. Would it be legal for me to do this as long as it is in a case? I really don't care if I get pulled over as I have nothing to hide.

Perfectly legal, you don't even need a container, necessarily. Though, if you're going to pass through a school zone, technically it needs to be in a locked container, which is a federal law.

    make sure it's unloaded

as long as it does not constitute an Assault Weapon ( refer to the charts here @ calguns ) -- long guns do not need to be in locked container OR out of site, unless within 1000feet of a school zone.

Handguns, EBRs, they do need to be in a locked container -- should that locked container be bungie corded to the passenger seat of a cbr900rr, a sissy bar on a harley or mounted to a rack on an enduro - as long as it is in a locked container you're good.

and of course - not loaded.

I've rode my moto several times to go shooting up here locally - its not really the best method per say depending on make and containers attached to the bike for a range day - but if you're out for a ride anyway and want to put 100 rounds down range while hydrating - go for it

What kind of motorcycle/luggage do you have? I've broken down an AR and fit it into the trunk of my Gold Wing, along with a cased pistol, then locked the trunk. The ammo fits in the saddlebags, no problem.

If you're riding a sport bike, you might have to get inventive. I wouldn't want to case and sling a rifle, for example... not for legality's sake, that would be perfectly legal, but because I wouldn't want it attached to me if I went down. If I break my rifle, I'll be sad, but if I break me, it's harder to fix.

Throwover saddlebags with a lockable zipper sounds like a good idea to me if you want to carry a handgun. A hard case bungeed to the bike, not to you, should do for a long gun. If it's something you can't break down and fit in a short case, well, lane splitting could become interesting...
I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!

Yes, AFAIK, unless it's an AW, or you travel within a school zone as previously noted in this thread. If you carry it exposed, don't be surprised if you're stopped and contacted about it, then sent on your way.

Thank you for the information as I was going to the bay area this weekend to possibly swap hadnguns with another calgunner and was going to ride my big cruiser just to get some miles on it. I have a locable container that fits inside my saddlebags which are also lockable.

Well then it looks like I will be riding the "Hardly" to drop off and then pick up toys!
