Mormon Emigrant Trail BLM... were you there today? If so, please read this!

    Sunday, 5/16/10 at about noon...

I went out there today, and shortly after getting unpacked, I was approached by a guy who was quite distraught. At around 11:30am he and his wife had packed up his car after shooting, and accidentally left a few guns behind. When he returned around noon, they were gone. They're not expensive by any means, but they seemed to have substantial sentimental value( the guy was extremely bummed out). One of those "the .22 was handed down from my grandfather" situations.

    They are as follows:

    SVT-40
a bolt action shotgun (I didn't get the make)
    a Winchester .22

one of them was in a green soft case, another in a gun-sock, and the other in a hard case.
I guess it was one of those, "I'll just set these here next to the car while I pack everything else in the trunk. {slam} Ok honey, let's go.[30 minutes down the road] Awwwwweeee FF*******cccckkkkkk!"
For the record, I don't know this guy... just trying to get the word out. I know it is HIGHLY unlikely that these will be found, but I feel I should at least try to help. If you have them, or know who does, I'm sure this guy would love to have them back. PM me, as I have his contact info.

When I am leaving the range I am always so paranoid I am leaving something behind I check for all my cases at dang near every stop light/sign.
    Insert something clever here.

Is this the one just past Nyack off 80? If so I'll put the word out, my wife's family is Mormon and we know the people responsible for the area up there, and we know a lot of people who go up there.

That sucks. Hopefully, the owner will report the guns missing. Maybe whoever found the guns turned them in to the local LE. Good on you OP for getting the word out and doing what you can to help out.

I told him to check with the local ranger station, and with the sheriff. He said he didn't have the serial numbers recorded, so I think filing a lost/stolen gun report is out the window. His only hope is if they were picked up by an honest person, and they turn them in to LE.

I know my attempts here are feeble at best, but I feel I should do something to help out. If this was me, I would be devastated.

Dang that sucks, I hope he gets them back soon. In some ways I am glad I only have 3 toys to keep track of. I will be adding one more soon, but that is about it for me. Hardest part for me is trying to remember how many ammo cans I took out with me now

Not necessarily a lost cause. The .22 probably did not even have a serial number. A reasonably accurate description should be enough...especially if he can remember some prominent stock scratches, etc.

                      Sucks to be him.

                      Doesn't record Serial numbers.

Walks away from over $1k in C&R guns that can be sold cash and carry and will likely never see a DROS even if he did have SNs.

I feel sorry for him, but he's an idiot.

Yeah, that's kinda the general consensus. He mentioned his own idiocy quite a few times during the brief encounter.

My biggest fear,I always triple check if I left one of my guns behind at the range or Gunshows.

                            Yeah! That sucks!

I left a can of AP .223/5.56 at angeles when I got there & couldn't use it there a few years back. Forgot to go back to the office to get it afterwards.....probably $150 to $200- worth of ammo...THEN!
