Are M14s still imported in the country or are/were they part of the chinese gun ban back in the Clinton era? Do they come in anything but the standard length barrels? Can you order a Chinese m14 in say the same configurations as a M1A comes in. Are they just not as popular or simply the availability just isnt there? Does anyone think that the market will be flooded with Chinese copy of M14 AR15 HK SIG etc if the import ban is lifted?

Yep, these were part of the Clinton era importation ban. There haven't been any new Chinese imports in a number of years.
If the ban is ever lifted, yes, I believe we would be flooded with inexpensive arms. Americans talk tough about buying American and hating communism, but faced with the choice of buying a $200 gun over a $600 gun, American frugalness always wins out.
Actually, I wouldn't mind owning one of these if the ban were to be lifted.

As mentioned above, because of Clinton, none have come into this country. It's sad because they are available in Canada at a very decent price. Believe it or not, Norinco and Polytec M14's are very highly regarded due to the receivers being forged and closer to specs of a real M14 than say a Springfield Armory cast receiver. Their bolts are soft, so if you do get your hands on one, send it to a qualified armorer who can do a USGI bolt conversion. Are M14s still imported in the country or are/were they part of the chinese gun ban back in the Clinton era? I just recently picked up a Norinco M14 receiver with a Criterion 18" medium weight chrome lined barrel, TRW bolt, and a mixmaster USGI trigger group to complement my standard "Rack Grade" LRB M14. My Norinco shoots sweet. The painted rifle is the Norinco (finish on it was thin so I painted it) and the other is my LRB; don't mind my g/f's purse.

I have a Chinese m14. I was reading up on it and the soft bolt they supposedly have. I haven't had any problems with mine but then I haven't shot it a lot either and from what i understand the problem is with older models not the latest ones. i could be wrong about that. I was just wondering why I don't see more of them for sale. Since they're banned for importation I guess I know why
Thanx
