    Quick Serpa review

    Hey fellas,

Just got my serpa for my glock today by reccomendation of my rangemaster and so far I am really impressed. I did a bunch of drills with it today and it is awesome. The locking mechanism is very secure and positive and the release is super positive.

I know I dont have a lot of time with it and that is why this is just a quick rundown of what I think of it right now. I will definitely update this as I spend more time with it and really get to train with it.

    And now for some photos.....

Sparkie decided he would hang out with me this evening. He is working real hard.

This is my issued G27 in the serpa. I really like how it fits and stays in really tight. As far as concealability its not the best but as far as retention its stinking awesome.

This is the proper way to release the serpa locking mechanism. You index the frame and as you draw the weapon you trigger finger rests along side the frame the way you are intended to.

this is what it should look like when you draw.

THIS IS THE WRONG WAY. This is the reason many shooting schools dont allow the serpa. People do not properly train with the release mechanism and think they need to press it down. the issue with this method is when the gun clears the holster your finger drops into the trigger guard and can cause an ND.

Overall I really like the Serpa and its construction. For anyone looking for a CCW holster with awesome retention and simple operation this is the way to go.

Also an added bonus is my G22 service weapon works as well. The only difference between the G22 specific and this is the extended barrel/slide cover.

Hope you guys enjoy. If you have questions please ask and I will try to answer them the best I can

    Thanks!!!

How's the fit? Does it rattle at all?

I use the Serpa Sportster for my 1911 when I'm in camp, but don't use it when on the trail or while actively "sporting" due to a little rattle. I love the positive retention, it stopped a moron from trying to draw it from behind me while I was cooking.

I'm a BIG Serpa fan. I like how the pistol locks in, good fit. +1 for Blackhawk Serpa

I have two Serpa's, one for my 92FS and another for my P89.

No rattles and with practice the draw is very fast. The only draw back, which could also be a plus, is that it is difficult to remove the paddle from your trousers when you're ready to take the holster off.

There is very little rattle and thats only because I havent tightened my retention screw yet.

            Its still super tight though

I had one for a 1911 for a whole 20 minutes. It was ridiculously tight, the locking mech wouldn't release, and it just seemed cheap, IMHO.

All my Glocks and 1911s share one or two Serpas.

I really like my Serpa for admin type days where its uniform but no gunbelt. It provides a secure retention when the risk of a takeaway is reduced. I don't carry my P226 off duty anymore, but if I did, this would be my holster of choice. Nice write-up.

The position of the release button being so close to the trigger can lead to NDs.

Just keep in mind the CQC (concealment) Serpas are not designed for duty use. The screws are not robust and won't stop a strong individual from ripping the whole holster off the platform. There's a separate line of Serpa duty holsters with stronger screws that are designed for LE use.

I like 'em for Glocks, but like RobG, two out of my three 1911's don't fit them well - too tight even with the adjustment screw backed all the way out, hard to lock in and release.

For 1911s, I wind up using an Uncle Mike's Kydex holster more often than not.
I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!

I too enjoy my glock in the serpa. Used it in IDPA with no problems. However my 1911 had a habit of hanging up in its serpa. Switched to comp tac for IDPA.
