Technically, the longest AR pistol you should legally build would be with a 15.9" barrel...technically.
My posts are my own opinion and reflect no official positions of anyone other than myself.

Correct the general agreement is you want to keep it under 16"

        As noted above.

12001. (a) (1) As used in this title, the terms "pistol,"
"revolver," and "firearm capable of being concealed upon the person"
shall apply to and include any device designed to be used as a
weapon, from which is expelled a projectile by the force of any
explosion, or other form of combustion, and that has a barrel less
than 16 inches in length. These terms also include any device that
has a barrel 16 inches or more in length which is designed to be
interchanged with a barrel less than 16 inches in length.
You think you know, but you have no idea.

Horsepoop. There is no legal end-length. Want a 40" barreled M10? Go for it!

The law defines a concealable firearm, not the maximum barrel length for use.
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself...A murderer is less to fear. The traitor is the plague."......Cicero
