    Selling ammo, legal?

    Hello,

Is selling ammo legal in California, if you are not an FFL?

    Thanks in advance,

    Cheers!

Yes it is, at least for now. Come February of next year things are looking like they are going to be different.

YES, YES, and YES. AFAIK, AB962 will only cover ammo shipped into California. I do not believe there will be any restrictions on Private Party Exchanges on ammo, how would they track that?

        Now THAT would be retarded.

And I believe that covers only pistol ammo not rifle ammo.

The above is all correct unless you are talking about selling your own handloaded/reloaded ammo.

Yes it's legal. But if you are selling your own handloads its illegal.

Why is that? Or how about reloads? Or is there a difference there?

Reloads and handloads are the same. You can sell it but you need an FFL.

Think liability. By selling reloads, you have become a manufacturer of ammunition. If something goes wrong and someone gets hurt because of your reloads, then what? This is why an FFL is required to manufacture ammunition.

If you hurt yourself with your own reloads, then that's all on you....

Ok but can you sell ammo that are reloads you bought from a manufacturer at a gun show though? Since they were loaded by a manufacturer?

                          Thanks Everyone for the info.

So manufactured handgun ammo can be resold.

Outstanding question from mdouglas1980 is ... can bought reloads (from an FFL) be resold?

                          Thanks,

                          Cheers!

Actually, the reason they require a manufacturer's FFL is to collect the 11% excise tax on manufactured ammunition. I don't think it has anything to do with liability since it was required before this country turned into the litigous (sp?) society it is now.

I'd say liability and the excise tax.
If you sell any reloaded shells, sell to a buyer as components......the buyer can then do with them what they will and release you of any liability.
