Is it best to stick with just one ammo type?

When I use my video camera I use TDK tapes only. Different manufacturers use different chemicals and some of them are not happy when mixed, so a video tape may not look so great, or the camera can get dirty faster, is I use all different brands of tapes.

And I heard it was best to stick to one gas in your car.

What about guns? if I decide to shoot ABC Brand of ammo it is best to stick with it for as long as I own the gun? Will it allow me to sight in once and for all? Will it be consistent in its performance?

What if I just get whatever the store has and end up shooting all sorts of wacky loads? Will there be any negative effects on the firearm, my shooting, or anything else?

I'm all for brand loyalty but if it makes a difference in the real world I'd like to know about it.

One brand of Gas only? Nah, I use all kinds of gas for my cars and have not noticed much difference.

Using only one brand of ammo is just that too, ammo is not always made with the same exact powder, primer, bullet for every single Lot. That would mean you having to track down say LC 07 Lot 83-01234 in order to get the same results. So why stick to one ammo manf? Use what is a good deal and what you think and might know is good for your particular firearms.

for match ammo, sticking to one brand that your gun performs well with is best.

for just range/plinking ammo..... just shoot whatever you can buy cheap and lots of.

Find out which diet your weapon prefers...Factory ammo isn't always the greatest but will do the job..reloaders will usually get better patterns.

Make sure your weapon will function with the brand and type of ammo you select...some weapons are finicky to some brands and other weapons will eat what ever you feed it ( HK ) lol

FMJ for tagets & JHP for defense...unless you have endless funds..then JHP all the time

TDK tapes and gasoline you can get anywhere they are sold and anytime.

I have at least 7 kinds of 45 ACP . Some HP, some FMJ, Glaser Blue, 165, 185, 200, 230 grains, +P, Bonded, LE, etc.

Each has it's use and purpose...and each were bought based on availability and price. As long as you get factory ammo it should be okay on your firearm. Will they be different? Sure...Adapt and overcome.

Ha ha...I also have 4 different 45 ACP firearms...talk about combinations!

          .

Revolvers burn anything. Shoot it if you got it!
Semi-Autos can be very picky. You can afford to have issues on the range. You cannot afford to have issues when your life depends on it.
Your HD ammo needs to be proven to work in your specific chosen gun. Range ammo only needs to be as good as you are willing to pay.

Oh yeah, I buy most of my gas at Costco. If no Costco nearby, whatever I can find.

I use different bullets in my guns. The glock doesnt seem to like the rem sabers. I think its the brass jacket and the polygonal rifeling (Maybe?) My others will eat about anything so they get the rem's, and my glock gets the SB gold dots.

As far as gas I get my gas wherever i find myself needing gas. I dont use a specific brand. ive never noticed my vehicles run any different. Once in a while I throw a bottle of injector cleaner

As for the ammo i use whatever I get a good price on steel case aluminum or brass. 99% of the ammo I shoot all my guns eat it up. I had a instance of some ammo I bought and my 30-06 did not like it at all. I separated the ammo and did not use it. As far as I'm concerned if a gun only likes a certain kind of ammo the gun is not reliable enough. Ill use it but wont trust my life to it.

For gas, I only go to places that either carry TOP TIER gas and narrowed it to Chevron and Shell and then there is a non-Top Tier... Mobil (because I love Mobil and I am a brand whore like that)

So with bullets. Sort of the same mentality. I have brand choices (which echo most of the brands already mentioned) but I don't and won't limit myself to one brand. Especially since availability is so scarce when it comes to a good brand/price combo.

[rant] FYI, gas is fungible. There is only one pipe line and everyone's gas travels through it. All gas is the same, by octane. They add their special juice to the tanks. techron, and the like. Octane is an average rating because all octanes flow through the same tube. 100,000 gallons of jet fuel, followed by race fuel, then 99, 91, 89, 87. Gas is gas, by octane. [/rant]

                            As for ammo.
Pistol, shoot what your gun likes.
Rifle, stick to one brand because your zero can shift dramatically with different rounds.

You didn't tell us what kind of gun or caliber. Home defence or just shooting. All are different. If you want accuracy, Reload. If you want to plink, shoot what ever your gun will digest. If you want HD, Gold Dot Hollow Points.
