Question about putting Guns on Homeowners policy

I want to let my insurance company know what guns I keep in the house and take out a necessary rider if need be to insure them against theft. My question is, are there any reasons NOT to let my insurance company know I keep firearms in the house. For instance, I have a pit bull. She's the sweetest dog in the world, sleeps with my 2 young daughters and there's a good chance if anybody broke in she'd lick them to death. However, I don't tell the insurance company I have a pit bull because they would jack my insurance up because I have a "potentially dangerous" dog. So I'm just wondering before I go and tell my insurance company I keep guns in the house if there's anything that I haven't considered that would make this a bad decision.
    Thanks

They might want serial numbers, but the rates shouldn't change unless you up the coverage. Depending on the company, you can get a firearm specific rider for next to nothing. It's usually like $100 a year or something insignificant depending on the level.

Something about giving an insurance company my serial numbers that makes me uneasy.

I declared my guns on my homeowners policy. Got them insured for 10k. No other info was needed. I just did a agreed upon value. The dog may be a problem because if she ever bites someone they can deny coverage due to misleading them ( you had the dog and did not declare) just so you know I have nothing against pit bulls. depending on how they are raised they can either be sweet dogs or problematic ones.
ive never heard of a insurance company demanding serial #s. just do a agreed upon value. i just took that the guns cost me and added 3K to it all. my policy went up a whopping 80$ a year. i also added another car and some other stuff.
