    STOLEN: My beloved Ruger 10/22

I just discovered today that my Ruger 10/22 rifle had been stolen out of my storage unit along with one of my soft rifle cases.

I spent a lot of time and money on this one... I painted and shaved the stock myself with over 20 coats of paint and urethane, it has a Tactical Solutions barrel, urethane buffer, Volquartsen sear and hammer, rimfire tech auto bolt release, a reverse (pull) mag release, a one-piece scope mount, and a 50mm illuminated scope.

This is a pretty unique build as I painted it to be one of a kind and it's a pretty conspicuous paint job. If anyone sees it please let me know. I'm filing a report with Huntington Beach PD tomorrow morning.

Thanks for looking everyone. Sucks that I had it locked up in an internal storage unit guarded by cameras and three separate keypad entries, and it still got stolen.

Dang, that sucks!! As you say, at least it's very unique. You don't see that configuration and finish every day at the range. Best of luck in your recovery..

Needless to say - I don't think I personally trust public storage units.

How did they get into your unit?

I'll keep a lookout at my local range, and let ya know if I ever see anything.

I wonder if it would be possible to keep a safe in one of those storage units.

That sucks, unfortunitly it probably was an inside job. My grandmother had a bunch of stuff stolen out of a "secure" storage unit and sold off by the owners son. Turned out the son had been doing it for years and had stolen nearly 100k worth of stuff(100K in 80s $'s) from various people who had storage units there. If you know anyone else who uses that storage facility tell them to inventory their stuff.

It was curious... the unit from the outside was undisturbed. When I got in, it looked like one of my suitcases had fallen from a shelf so i just put it back... there is a broomhandle that I've never seen before in the unit. The lock was intact and locked when I opened it. I know it was stolen because a case is also missing and it's a case I would NEVER use to carry that rifle. Oddly, I don't think any ammo was taken. Weeks and weeks of careful love and attention to the finish on the stock... gone forever.

Are you the only one with the key to the lock, or does the storage unit also have access? What are the inside walls made of? The unit I have my truck in just has sheet metal panels between the units, screwed on with self tapping hex head screws. If one wanted to they could remove the panel from the inside of their unit and have access to the unit next door. But only to one side since the sheet metal is mounted from the same side on each unit.

Check for parts for sale in your area. I doubt that a rifle that unique will ever be seen intact. Sorry for your loss. You filed a police report for a stolen firearm, As required by law, Right?

Going to Huntington Beach PD tomorrow morning... already spoke with them over the phone. I doubt they'll do anything. I'm going to talk to the storage facility too since the whole joint is under 24 hour surveillance.

@SunriseF150... I'm the only one with a key, but it wouldn't surprise me if they have some sort of masterkey for it, since they sold it to me. The curious thing is the broomhandle... and then i noticed that the side walls of the unit are just 5/8" drywall on galvanized steel frame. At the top near the ceiling theres a section broken off on both sides (enough for a person to crawl through but not without breaking more wall). Those were there before though. I'm thinking inside job is likely.
