CLP differences - I just want to clean my toys

Can someone PLEASE explain the differences between CLP-2, CLP-4, CLP-5, CLP-12, CLP-16, and not to mention the CLP-Collectors...
For crying out loud, I just want to clean my guns... What should I buy...
I see all these on Copes website, is this the place to order from? Are those decent prices? Are different CLP's used for different applications, such as cleaning the barrel, slide, bolt, pistols vs. rifles, etc?
Also, any recommendation on cloths and kits?
    Thanks,
    YBZ

Explore our duty holsters, concealment holsters, and optic-ready holsters. Find the perfect fit for Law Enforcement, Military, and First Responders.

I use CLP 5 for everything. CLP + Boresnake I use for barrels.

They can be found online Midway and Cabelas, SG, CTD etc. for decent prices.

The difference is the way it is applied and the amount.

      CLP-2 4oz. Aerosol
      CLP-5 1 Pint W/Trigger Sprayer
      CLP-7 1 US Gallon Liquid
      CLP-4 4oz. Liquid
      CLP-12 12oz. Aerosol
CLP-16 .68 Gun Kit Size Liquid

I personally like the large Aerosol can(#12). I believe the formulation is the same.
You can use CLP on most guns and gun parts but, RTM to see if it will harm your finish.

Beware the CLP in aerosol cans, it sits around for awhile and the can loses gas pressure. That's why I buy the squeeze bottles & 1qt jugs.

CLP has a shelf life. It also attracts dust. It's great for a cleaner, okay for a lubricant, and is not a preservative. Once the teflon particles bond/coagulate, you're supposed to throw it away, that usually happens in a year or two of sitting.

So if you have CLP shake the bottle well, and often. When you see white flakes coming out of it, time to discard and buy more.

Get information on typical use of Militec-1 Impregnated Lubricant and Grease and links to order products from our online store.

Warning about the spray bottles though...they leak quite easily. The CLP seems to find its way up and around the threads and weeps out if it's not stored perfectly vertical. I found this out the hard way...I had a large spray bottle in a backpack that laid down at like 45 degrees. I drove up to burro and by the time I got there the whole side of the backpack was wicking up oil...

                    Regards,

                    James R.

Use the pint bottle to refill 4 oz bottles for the range bag. If you need to cover a large area, just saturate a patch from the smaller bottle.

                        Thanks for the help everyone!

Xeno, is Militec better to use than CLP? do you use it in conjunction with CLP (after cleaning)? from reading about it it seems that the weapon needs to be put in an oven after lubrication when using Militec???

Also, after cleaning with CLP is there another type of oil that should be used as final lubricant/preservative?

                        Thanks again all.

I don't use CLP to clean, just to lube. Might I suggest M-Pro7 for cleaning?

Nope, just clean it and lube it with the same CLP.

I only use CLP when I've run out of any other lubricant, or if CLP is the only thing within reach.

To clean, I prefer solvent. To lube, any gun oil... Miltec-1 is great stuff. For long term storage, I either store dry or use RIG.

CLP has a shelf life. It goes bad. It also attracts dust, which is why CLP is not used for long term storage in the military. There are reasons for this. Not that it would be pertinent to civilian usage, but I gained my dislike of CLP in the military. YMMV.

Don't get me wrong, I use CLP and won't hesitate to, but if I have any other gun oil, I'll use that first.
