Sac Valley is the closest one.

What do you mean by "long range"?

Chabot in Castro Valley has a 200 yard range.

Circle S in Petaluma has 300 yard.

USI has a 200 yard for members. For 1,000 yards you have to go to Sac Valley or Coalinga.

Metcalf (Santa Clara County) has a 200 yard range, open to the public once a month, or with the Zouaves or Santa Clara Rifle club (CMP/Highpower) more often.

Chabot's 200 yard range is open on Friday mornings only, according to their website. USI does not even list a 200 yard range, only a 100. ??? The range in Petaluma does go out to 300 yards, but the place is hardly the caliber of Chabot. The sun in the morning can be right in your eyes when shooting. Sacramento 300 yard is nice. No range officer, just go out when all are ready to go to targets. Targets at 200 yards as well. Longer range out to 1000 available but not open to just anyone.

I'm on my phone so I can't check the website but USI does have a 200 yard range. It is their members or multi-purpose range and there are several matches held there. There are also may days it is open for general shooting for members, many days not on the calender on week days. If you are a member and the red flag is up, check in, as long as it isn't a match, you can join in shooting there.

Are there any restrictions on who can use the 300 yd range in Petaluma like a qualification etc or can I just show up and shoot?

No restrictions, just show up and post your argets during a range break.

Not many people use it, so you might want to tell the RO you are going out there, so he knows you will be a while.

                        I was looking for 600 yards +
I guess that means sac is the only option.
How do you get a target out there? Walk it? Or do they have metal plates set out there?

Hmm, walk a 1K yard, for each shot string: I like the idea of adding more exercise to my hobby

Coalinga has a full set of pits, with target carriers (the pics of Sac valley I've seen show the same). Coalinga is a member range, but reasonable ($30/year, AFAIK). I think that you can set up plates, or that there may be plates, but I've only been there on match weekends.

What kind of target setup does Petaluma have? Do you get a cardboard target that you hang on existing target stands/hangers like at Chabot?
