    Transferring guns out of state

i'm in the process of transferring a rifle from california to florida and wanted to get everyone's feedback as to how i deal with ffl transfer and what i should do for sending this through common carriers or recommendation?

i heard that i get the fax from ffl dealer in FL and send it over

    or

that i have to go through an ffl dealer here and get the other ffl dealer to my dealer to do the transfer...

    help.

I typically just call my ffl guy and say, hey I want to get a rifle from this other guy... then I give him the contact info... and they work out the details without involving me.

Then I go file my DROS when it shows up.

Hes sending it out of state not bringing it into the state.

Shipping a gun out of state does not require a an FFL on this end... but the buyer would have to get an FFL to fax you the shops FFL.

and just use UPS and ship it out to them correct? is there any restriction on shipping the gun and ammo together?

IIRC you can't ship firearms and ammo together, can't remember where I saw this, but I might be wrong and somebody will correct me on this.

I think with UPS you have to go to one of there larger warehouse offices rather then the "UPS Store" to ship it. Although I have shipped from the UPS Store before.

thank you all for clarification. i did some research and found out that some folks send the guns out of state and declare "something" rather then guns due to stuff being stolen by employees or something, so technically this is how some folks do it when transferring, but i've decided to have it done via FFL dealer to another FFL. just to keep things in check.

                appreciate everyone's feedback and knowledge!
