    Streamlight TLR-3 Thoughts?

Does anybody have experience with this particular light? I understand that it's different from the other Streamlight models because it's polymer rather than aluminum. Also, it's smaller and uses only 1 battery with a lower lumen output. It's also quite a bit cheaper (roughly $70 shipped).

I doubt I'll be wading through any murky jungles for extended periods of time hunting down ninjas/zombies/hippies whatever... I'm looking at a straightforward item to put on a nightstand gun (yes, yes I have a flashlight as well). However, I do want to make sure the light stays secured to the rail during firing.

Another option maybe is a mounted laser (either rail or grip)? I haven't had a chance to try the CTC grips to compare their thickness with standard grips.

I guess to sum it up: TLR-3 a good buy for home defense?

    i have 1 TLR-1 and 2 TLR-2. i love both of them. my favorite is TLR-2. led/laser combo.

i see TLR-1 led model sell for around 65-75 used. TLR-2 sells for around 175-190 used. all my TLR's are used and never an issue.

as for your question, if you have a sub compact and looking for a good light, i'm sure the TLR-3 will work just fine. i would rather have the TLR-1 though.

I bought the TLR-3 in an attempt to fix my G23 with TRL-1 cycling woes. I never actually took it out to test as I ended up selling the gun, but that's beside the point.
Personally I prefer the TLR-1 because the switch extends further back towards the trigger guard and is in a much more natural position compared to the TLR-3 which sits too far forward.
Additionally, the switch itself feels kinda cheep and "rubbery" compared to the -1, but it works.
Other than that, it seems fine. It's light weight and plenty bright. If you really want a small, light weight light it's a fine choice. if you can get away with the larger -1, you might be happier.

Thanks for the heads up. I guess since it won't be going on a subcompact I should just look out for a TLR-1 or similar. Now I have to scour the accessories forum religiously.

I love my TLR-3...The reason why I chose it over the TLR-1 or 2 is because the 3 is more compact and im rocking a glock 30 which is already pretty small, so it fits the best, and doesnt hang out too far forward to get hit with excessive muzzle blast. And it comes with attachments that will fit nearly any handgun with a rail.

Ive shot it with the light attached with only around 50 rounds and it still works perfect. Its also really bright for how small it is. I can light up my entire back yard which is pretty big.

Not sure where you see them for 70 shipped. I paid around 115 bucks + shipping on a glock site which is average price. So if you see them for that low price ide buy it asap. I would buy this light agian for sure.

Also this is used the same as what you said yours will be used for "night stand gun" This is my HD weapon, and the light is really nice indoors, extreamly bright, but not to the point where the lights bounces back off the walls and blinds yourself. And its small enough not to get in the way and snag on things when its in my drawer. Thats pretty much my review/thoughts on it. Hope it helps

The laws that forbid the carrying of arms, disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants. They serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man. - Thomas Jefferson

The TLR-3 sucks. Absolutely sucks. Maybe I got a bad one, but the quality is no where NEAR the TLR-1

It rattles, doesn't fit right, the light turns on, and immedieatly goes like half dim, did I mention it wont fit snugly? (i've tried on 1913 AND glock rails)

TLR-1 is the best light I ever bought

              TLR3 is the worst.

Hmmm what about a TLR-1 compared with a Sig Sauer STL-900L? Thanks for the feedback by the way.

Stay with the TLR-1 C4. Better quality and more holster options.

Thanks. I hadn't really considered the Sig light until I saw that some lights don't fit the trigger guard area snugly.... didn't hurt that it was on sale for about half off too. Just put in an order for a TLR-1 C4, thanks for everyone's help.

You won't regret that. For the money, the TLR 1 is amazing. If you called the TLR-1 the baseline @ $100 - the TLR 3 should cost like $15
