    Would you...?

Had 2 separate buyers post an "I'll take it" or agree via PM to purchase 2 of the pistols I had listed. When I contacted them again to iron out details they both told me that their wives didn't ok the purchase so they had to back out. Would you hit them with negative feedback?

I understand that things pop up and do not go as planned, but to say that the wife won't allow it...really!? One the positive side, I now have some screaming deals on the pistols that are up for sale. Thoughts on feedback?

If its them two newbies that have barely any posts then it doesn't matter if you leave negative feedback or not because I'm sure they're not here to learn or participate in the forum anyways And yup they are. People like that are why I think we should have a minimum post count before somebody can use our classifieds.

no. neutral feedback suits this case.

the established guidelines for itrader feedback are:

negative feedback: if you are actually out of money or product.
neutral feedback: if you are strung along but no money or product changes hands.

ETA: this topic is brought up A LOT. here is what Turby had to say about it.

That is what the feedback guidelines we've established continue to recommend.

And there usually isn't a good reason to leave that feedback.

Don't use the wife to backout of a deal...real man keeps his words. I have someone backout of a trade last year, which sucks.

i assume when the buyer said "i'll take it" that he knew he had a wife....

It would seem like if you wanted to buy something and you knew your wife had a say in it, you would ask her before you committed to buying it.

I only slap negatives for a no show without a call, or people who take over 2 months to ship stuff (seriously happened). Shtuff happens.

I wouldn't consider that being a 'flake' since there wasn't any time or energy wasted on your end, so giving a negative feedback would be harsh IMO (but then this goes back to my arguement in the other thread about people who will say "I'll take it" just got get in front of the line, and then decide whether they really want it or not and ruins it for poeple in line who really do want it now - in that case, maybe a negative feedback would be in order). Now if you agreed on meeting up and they were a no show or you went out of your way on something to make the deal happen and then they flaked, then sure give them a negative feedback.

Ironically, I've purchased quite a few things on Calguns and have given lots of postive feedback. I've never once had the seller give me any feedback for being a good buyer.

Twice now I've committed to buying and had a financial disaster raise it's ugly head the next day. I went through with the deal and resold the rifles...one at a small loss. I don't want to develop a reputation as a flake.

Post the guys names in your WTS thread and say they flaked because mommy said no. That's punishment enough.

I've had that happen before.....not with guns but with other things. vehicles, boats and stuff like that. Got to the point that I started putting in my ads "Please get your wife's permission before calling or coming to look."

The sad thing is that its not coming from 2 noobs. One of the potential buyers has more itrader ratings than I do. I'm not going to post the PM's here in this thread but if you really want to read the excuses they are posted in their Itrader ratings that I just left for them....neutral.

I have had 2 sellers take the money and keep it without sending anything........(HPearce got me for 120.00 + next day postage and 45LC got me for 80.00) When I posted in one of there ongoing sales what happened, the moderator deleted my post, asked me what happened and never did anything. I have not been able to figure out the feedback system here (cut and paste?) but I am going the small claims route....At least with HPearce.
