Optics Planet says im on a "List" anyone else have this problem?

I am a loyal customer to opticsplanet.com and have purchased many things from them. I recently ordered a blackhawk serpa platform and some earplugs from them and I got a call 2 days later saying that my name was on a list of individuals that they are prohibited to sell to. They said they need my govt Id (IE drivers license) in order to proceed with the order. I realize my name is pretty common, but I have no felonies and have kept my nose pretty clean. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem as well?
P.S. I canceled my order and Im just going to go down to turners and buy the stuff there. also, Im a lifelock member, so Im pretty secure about my Identity.

Nothing as bad as that, but I did order a scopecoat from them that was listed as "in stock". The next day I got an email stating it was out of stock, but they would have it in 7-10 days. That was 1 month ago, still waiting. This is my first order with them and will probably also be my last.

i had an issue like Trick, but never had the courtesy of an email or telephone call. i placed an order for more then $400 in various items and received a box about a week later with roughly 1/3 of my order. i called, and found out that the majority of my items that where listed as in stock, where in fact backordered. i was assured that all items would be back in stock and ready to ship within 3-5 business days. 2 weeks later, only 1 item had shipped. i canceled the rest of the order and never went back.

its probably just me, but i expect accurate stock notifications on the website of a merchant of this size. if its a hole in the wall small business, its understandable to not have this functionality. but to make it worse, they have it, but its wrong. this would have all been less of an issue had i just received a phone call. im sure $400 to optics planet is small potatoes, but its completely besides the point.

This is what was in the Email they sent me:

We apologize, but your order has been temporarily placed on HOLD. Unfortunately, during the Restricted Party Screening, required to comply with U.S. Government laws and regulations, one or more pieces of information that you have provided matched one or more List(s) maintained by various U.S. Government Departments.

Please do not be alarmed by this notification. Many common names often produce possible "hits" against the Lists and we are looking for your help to disprove the validity of such matches. In order to comply with all U.S. Government laws and regulations we must verify that each potential match is not in fact a true match. In order to do that we ask that you provide us a copy of an official government issued photo ID including your Date of Birth. Typically, we are able to verify the legitimacy of the match within 1 day after we receive a copy of your ID.

To help us expedite the processing of your order and comply with all U.S. Government laws and regulations, please provide this information by either faxing it to (847) 919-9401 or emailing it to RM@OpticsPlanet.com. Your order will remain on HOLD until we receive the information mentioned above.

If you paid by credit card, it HAS NOT been charged at this time. We will not charge your credit card until we are ready to ship the order. Please note that if we do not hear back from you within the next 7 days, we will assume that you are no longer interested in this order and will be forced to cancel it.

Again, we apologize for the inconvenience associated with this request and thank you for your patience and understanding!

        Best Regards,

That's a little chilling. What companies out there have access to government watch lists, or what government agencies have access to private companies...

I think it has to do with the Arms Export Control Act. Certain items are ITAR restricted for export; and there is a Restricted Party Screening List.

We have to run all our vendors through a mandated terrorist list before we cut them a check for an account payable. This sounds similar, and it's probably just a mess up.

it is a serious business and has nothing to do with privacy.
It is the law that applies to everything from toilet paper to rockets! you can download the lists yourself - they apply to US transactions as well because of the possibility of re-export.

If you know he is joking (and it isn't even directed at YOU but the people who did this) you can probably stay off the high horse for now. Thank you for your service.

I would think that most all Calgun members would be on that 'list'.
