Edit: couple good points brought up.

But I still think some form of training is not a bad idea.

trob, while I understand your point this doesn't really change anything. Prior to the law any dumbass with no training could carry, they just couldn't do it legally. Now, all those people who aren't idiots can carry too. I don't know how different the process is, but I would hope this would lead to a greater number of people carrying and giving thieves and criminals more pause.

            dude,
for nearly 200 years nearly all citizens across the land could CCW without an issue.
This right has been eroded and replaced with the DRUG culture legal and illegal. The result has provided and increase in crime against individuals and humanity, and rude behavior is abundant. Self reliance is scoffed at and fear is running way too many life's decisions.
Who is the judge of a dumb A** anyway?
Some very simple people are the most honest and kind of the planet, while the self righteous and over educated are despicably sick and perverted.
Get a grip man and have some faith in us dumb as bubbas. We just might save (no prolong - only Christ can save you) your life some day.

              Trob,
I hate to break this to you but your viewpoint is in the minority. At least 6 states allow ccw without any training required. At least 29 states allow carrying a gun without training including the one where you reside. If you really feel training must be mandatory before anyone can legally carry a gun the only state I know of that will back your opinion 100% is Illinois. The only ones allowed to carry there are the ones with power.

I don't see where some form of basic training is a bad idea It will only be a matter of time until one of these guys carrying makes a poor decision and shoots someone that he did not intend to. That is when the laws will change for the worse for everyone. I would be uneasy if I saw someone carrying since I have no idea if the dude (or dudette) has any clue about when to, or not use the weapon. I don't even want to be around anyone when I shoot at the range since there are far too many idiots that own guns.

What's next... Drivers & pilots licenses with no training? I had to go thru 10 hours of training to be able to help my kids little league out being an adult umpire, and even though I thought it was not possible I did learn a few things.Sorry man, in my mind you need to show some competency before you should be able to carry.

In AZ, open carry is perfectly legal with no required training. With that in mind, how can anyone possibly rationalize requiring someone open carrying, to take an 8 hour class in order to put their coat on?

I say this as an AZ CCW instructor. Yes, I personally believe some training is in order. But if it's not required for OC, it makes no sense at all to require it for CCW.

I understand in AZ it is legal to carry without training, that is why I am bringing it up.Training should be required for ANY type of carry in my opinion. At least with most CCW applications you need to show some basic competency skills with your carry weapon in order to get the permit. As a person who carries you have a responsibility to act with a higher degree of restraint and rationalization than one that does not. Just because the DROS process did not find you defective enough to own a gun, does it give you the smarts to actually use it, let alone carry it in public. I am not against OC, UOC, or CCW. I am against people who don't take the time to educate themselves on how they will act in "the gravest extreme". Those people to me are more of a concern than any BG I may happen across.

If you can show me the state where blood runs down the streets because carry is allowed without training you may have somewhere to stand with your argument.

I only have to point you to the BART incident where a trained LEO killed a man to prove training does not prevent negligence.
