911 Call to my home last nite

I just moved into my new home on April 1st. Last nite at approximately 1am my doorbell rang. I picked up my side arm as I got out of bed, chambered a round as I walked into the living room to the front door and said "who is it?" Response was "Costa Mesa police department. We received a 911 call from a land line in your home." -Gentlemen, I do not have a land line... This caused suspiscion. I asked him to hold on and walked back to my bedroom reassuring my girl everything was ok. I contacted Costa Mesa police department regarding a dispatch to my home. They confirmed the call. I placed my P226 into my safe, returned to, and opened my front door to an officer asking if I had just chambered a round (or something to that extent). I could not see if he had his weapon drawn as he made sure to blind me with his 1.21 gigawatt flashlight into my doorway. I responded "yes I did, and have returned my firearm to my safe." He stated that there has been a series of eight 911 calls coming from my home since early March, which is approximately 1 months time. Little freaky since no one lived here during that month. He asked a few random questions, shined his flashlight into my living room and down the hall (everything he could see from his porch standing position). He stated it seems as though everything was ok, then proceeded to tell me that another cop might have shot right through my front door if he heard me chambering a round from within my home. Guys, tell me your thoughts on this subject.

Subject being the "shooting right through my door." I believe I handled this situation well.
Second: who and how are these 911 calls being made from a land line connected to my home. Makes me wonder if there is someone really in trouble somewhere in my neighborhood and lines are just crossed --I don't know??

Well... It is definitely creepy that 911 callshave been originating from a house with no occupants, and then with no landline.
As for the cop shooting you through the door, it would be very irresponsible. If the cop can't confirm what the noise is, or his/her target, then they are operating irresponsibly.
As for grabbing your gun to answer your door, I would chamber a round as quietly as possible. You may freak an LEO out and they'll kill you and your dog.

      Ghosts!

I keep my firearm chambered. Motor skills go to crap when you awake.

The fate of the wounded rest in the hands of the ones who apply the first dressing.

Agreed, and I did chamber that round coming down my hall into my living room, not next to the front door.
I can't see a cop asking for a battle royale through my front door with no sight-on threatening target, as I likely would have fired back if bullets came screaming through my front door. How am I to know who the hell is standing there. I know I don't have to go into home invasion robberies and worse.

I would never intentionally cause a peace officer to become uncomfortable, as I do value their protection of the citizen on the streets and they have a difficult job as it is, but when it comes to my property, my home, my loved ones, that's where I become the protection.

"Well, officer, when someone knocks on my door at 1am there is a chance I'll shoot through the door."

No less stupid than what he said.

Killing the dog would be unjustified.

The 911 system is not perfect. I'm willing to bet that someone else is in need of help but, they keep thinking that the calls are coming from your place. They need to check their system and contact the phone company.

You should have asked him if cops who shoot through doors at 1am know that another LEO is not on the other side.

And, why was your Sig not already chambered again?

Imagine waking in the middle of the night by an armed burglar creeping through your house.....you chamber a round and your element of surprise goes south at light speed...just sayin

I chose the Sig because I'm not going to answer my door with an AR15 hanging from my left palm. I do have enough firearm choices for several possible situations. In this situation, someone was standing at my front door at an odd hour, not breaking and entering.

It's common. There's one house I've been to like 3 times in one week..... All at pretty much the same time. I feel bad for waking the guy up but we have to come out on the off chance it's legit.

Rain seems to make it worse. It's probably the wires. It wouldn't matter if you actually have a house phone or not. You still are wired to be able to use a landline.

He was an idiot... making a statement such as "shooting through the door"..As far as the incomplete 911, find out who the phone company is for the area. tell them of the problem.. this does happen a lot IE under construction, no landline and such...

I'm assuming your are a LEO. I don't understand how 911 is being dialed, and not some other random number. This makes me feel somewhat concerned for a person truly attempting to contact 911 for help from a home in the area and never receiving it.
