Help: need identification of this round

Saw this round at a shop. HOLY COW this thing was massive. Looked like a 45ACP on Steriods. Was about 2 inches long and 3/4 inch in diameter.

    Makes a 45ACP look like a 9mm in comparison.

    The headstamp reads F...A 41

Well, FA indicates Frankford Arsenal, but the cartridge itself is tough to identify, unless it was a creation by someone for laughs or novelty, such as cutting down .50BMG or something similar, and putting in something else as a dummy bullet to make it look like a big pistol cartridge. There is a guy on Gunbroker and Ebay that does this and sells them as novelty items.

This was bigger than 50bmg. I didn't hear any powder in it.

You mean the bullet was bigger? The base looks to be about the same size as some FA marked M2 Armor Piercing. WIth no powder in it, it makes me think someone created this for fun from a .50BMG casing.

The bullet was bigger width wise than a 50 cal. It was close to 3/4 inches think. I didn't hear any powder in it, but the primer looked real and unfired.

Ok, based on the extracted measurements from the photo, I would say it is a 50 bmg case cut down to around 1.6-1.7" and using a 700 Nitro Express projectile in it. Strickly for fun and laughs only. As for no sound of powder, it might not have any in it.

I agree. And this sure must be a sign that I am really bored today and merely killing time. Logging in here on such a beautiful day is undoubtedly proof of that, but I was going through some of my stash, grabbed the camera, and thought I might imbibe in a test photo starring some Talon. See the red line I drew on the case and note the approximate width measured at 3/4 at the base on the ruler:

.50 AE? I've never owned one, and the headstamp is off, but it looks close to me.

                      41 Magnum?

Theres also 41 Action Express & 41 Special.

41 Special brass is JUST a little over an inch.
41 AE brass is about 4/5 of an inch.
41 Remington Magnum is about an inch and 1/3.
