Guns in a jeep

I'm just about done fixing the Jeep I've been working on since Dec, and was just wondering, how would I go shooting in my Jeep? Its a 75 CJ5 with no doors or a top of any sort yet. I already don't let my car out of my sight when my guns are locked in the trunk, but with no top or even doors it worries me a bit. Any ideas or experience you think could help?

Also would it be worth it to add a pintle mount to my roll bar, even if I don't have anything that I can use with it? Yet.

Take a look at Tuffy trunks and consoles. They make just about anything that you can lock and bolt to your jeep. Something to put rifles in will cost you about $250-300, usually. They make some cool stuff tailored to Jeeps and Broncos.

I've been in open Jeeps where they used rifle mounts that hold the gun upright. But this is during a hunt or travelling off road. You could even use an old school style gun mount on the roll bar.
But for storage or keeping the gun in the jeep, you definitely need a strong box and preferably out of sight.

My guess is that you don't want to spend $2000 on a dedicated box for your Jeep, so you may look into some premade strong boxes and have a welder fabricate a mount. I've seen some nice ones put across the roll cage very low behind the seats.

One of these days I'm planning on adding a pintle mount to my Jeep's roll bar. I'd love to do the dashboard mount too.

In the meantime, I'll go out with you and bring my 1919 if you want something to actually put on that pintle

With no room behind the rear seat it's hard to store rifles on any permanent basis. Even the CJ-7 or TJ with the added room behind the seat it's almost impossible to store long guns because the area is not long enough.

Personally without a hard top I would not leave any firearms in a jeep. Even with a hard top it would be an open invitation to a thief. When I go shooting in my jeep It never leaves my sight.

Maybe you could get a metal hard case and cable lock it the the roll cage?

I've added Two Tuffy products to my wife's 94 Wrangler: a glove compartment and a center console. Both are very well made and Tuffy has good customer service. Highly recommended.
