Googles directions to Frontsight from N. Cal

I'm going to Frontsight later this month and am wondering if Google's directions to frontsight are drivable in an RV. Google recomends taking 99 to tehacapi pass (58) to 15 and then turning left at 127 at barstow to come into Pahrump from the west (as opposed to taking 15 all the way to Vegas and then 160 west out of vegas back to Pahrump. The 127 to Old Spanish trail looks a bit hairy for a large RV, anyone gone that way before??

Why yes, I go from northern Ca 4-5 times a year as HCz says. The quickest way for me where I live off of highway 88 is to continue east on 88 t0 395 south...then 208 to 95...then 95 to Puhrump/FS. It takes me about 7 hours and unless you need to go to Vegas, it bypasses Vegas which saves you an hour or so. No issues with taking an RV on these roads as they are well maintained. NHP doesnt seem concerned with your speed generally, but you need to stay within the speed limit while traveling through the small towns (you will see reduced speed signs).

It all depends where in Norcal your coming from. When I lived in Stockton, I went 99 or 5 to 58 to 15 and it was about 8 hours to Vegas...So add another hour for Puhrump/FS if your staying on 15 all the way. As far as the shortcut, I have not gone that way, but some have. Also, when you leave going that way...there are sometimes fireworks checkpoints by CHP..but probably only around the 4th of july...so make dam skippy your stuff is CA compliant when you return.

parts of the old spanish trail is tight, but probably not so much to impede you. the road seems very lightly traveled. oh, the road surface kinda sucks (not well mantained.)

I took that route when I went to FS and it was fun to drive as far as scenery and all. The road has its curves and its rolling ups and downs. Its not overly narrow but not wide by any means. The surface was paved just fine. I was driving a small truck so no issue but you'd probably have to go alot slower than I was. Overall it may be easier for you to stay on the highway but its definitely driveable. Drive safe whichever way you go and have fun at FS!

Actually, it's Hwy 127 off of Baker, CA. If you want a highway alternative to Old Spanish Trail, you can catch Hwy 178 at Shoshone to Pahrump. It becomes Hwy 372 on the NV side and takes you right to Pahrump/Hwy 160. From there you can take Hwy 160 to Tecopa Rd. (a.k.a. Old Spanish Trail Hwy) to FS Road.

Hwy 178/372 is a regular two lane highway. Probably a bit more traffic on there in case you break down... Cell coverage is spotty, between Shoshone and Pahrump.
