Ammo cooked off in house fire

all fluff. This just makes ammo look very dangerous so it must be stored in bunkers away from children.

    BS all the way.

Wow, so that was really close. I could see the fire from my house and could hear the sirens, and the sirens didn't sound like they were moving. I know Rabbi Bryski pretty well.

If you're unlucky enough to catch the shrapnel from the casing in your face, you could have some substantial injuries, especially if you get it in your eye. The indentation on the oven wall shows that.

I just saw this minutes ago reported on Fox 11 news.
Sheriffs deputies reported that the ammo was properly stored and it was an unfortunate accident.

Unless the ammo is chambered in firearms and the gun goes into the fire, and yes Mythbusters did it, then all that should happen for the most part if that the primers should blow out when the cartridges cook off.

I've seen mil-spec ammo cans that had ammo in them that went through a garage fire. Lots of blown out primers and the can was a bit dented, but no projectiles let loose and the cans were intact.

I see nothing wrong with properly storing your ammo. If we're responsible with our guns, let's be responsible with our ammo.

If placing the ammo in an ammo can could save a firefighter who's only there to save your house, why not?

I commend the sheriff for coming out and saying it was an "unfortunate accident".

I would be worried about the spray cans of paint and brake cleaner more than the ammo.

Good grief. We go through this type of thread at least twice a year. I got roasted for saying that stored ammo is not going to "fire" off to any degree, and I got half a dozen "News" articles from around the country showing how 'dangerous' fire nad ammo could be. Not one story was factual.

Maybe Ventura Fire needs a training course on handling fires involving ammo. If he heard it popping and he approached it, then maybe they need to revisit that procedure.

BTW, VC Fire is a great department. I worked closely with them for years. Good guys and a good department, in general.

Bigdog at play is right on the money!!!!
My captain and I made entry into a fully engulfed single story wood structure. After iniatial knock down, he steped on top of a mattress. Undrneath the mattress right where steped was a 45 cal. w/ a chambered round. Of course we had a full training on just this subject and Like I wrote, Big dog is 100% right.
