Range junkies, how do you keep costs down?

I don't know about everyone else but around here going to the range can get pricey. What do you all do to help keep the price down?

Depending on how much you shoot, it makes sense for you to join a private club, with yearly dues.
For ammo, reloading is your best option.

I have a conversion kit for the Glock 17/22 and shoot .22LR. It may not be the same but a brick of 525 RGB is $20 - you can't beat that price .

I just bought a couple of .22s for this reason. I expect my ammo costs to drop and my range time to increase substantially.

I shoot twice a week and only shoot centerfire on one of those trips. I save money anywhere I can. I became a member at a local range for $40/year, after that a range fee is only $2.

I mostly shoot 22lrs. Steel targets are a great investment and a ton of fun, I rarely buy paper targets. If I shoot at paper, I usually print them or shoot at 2x2 inch pieces of blue painters tape.

I love my Mosin Nagants, and even though the ammo is not that expensive, I bring along a .22 to shoot to make my ammo last longer. I can shoot all day and the .22 ammo seems to go forever.
Fire off a 150 rounds of 7.62x54r and maybe a 9mm pistol to mix it up a bit and you got a good day at the range.

Buy targets in bulk instead of paying .75/ea at the range.

I reload for my pistols and rifles, shoot a lot of 22 and work at the range on the weekends.
I'm only smiling at you while you talk to me because it's hilarious that you really think I give a crap about you.

As I've gotten older I thought I was gaining patience, then I realized I simply don't give a crap.

I alternate dry firing and live ammo strings; a 100 dry fires saves 2 boxes of centerfire.

But seriously, the benefits of dry fire are magnified when you can follow it up with live rounds. And vice versa.

My 22LR pistol is my new favorite gun unfortunately.

For centerfire, I can't remember the last time my 1911 got any love.

                        I have a range membership.
I buy in bulk when I see good deals. (I don't currently reload, but I should)

But the best cost saver was the purchase of a Browning Buckmark. I can throw a lot of lead down range on the cheap with that and focus on my fundamentals before I pick up the .40 or the .45

I'll easily put a couple hundred or more of .22lr downrange and then maybe only do 50-100 of the 'bigger stuff'

I feel like I actually shoot more now, and don't spend as much money (by going through the pricier ammo faster)

                        B.

Most clubs let you shoot at a better rate if your a member so do that and start reloading

For shooting enthusiasts there is no such thing as actually saving money. Reloading has greatly reduced my per-round cost which just means i shoot more. We can save money on a per-round or per range trip basis, but we'll just shoot more every time.
