Over the years I've found some interesting fired cartridge cases in the desert and even close to civilization. In the hills near Santa Clarita I came across a UMC 5 in 1 blank undoubtedly left behind in the filming of some 30s cowboy serial. out in the desert I came across a loaded .22 long (not long rifle) round and a fired .44 Colt case. Also in the desert on a dry lake bed I found numerous WW2 .50 cases and bullets. The bullets were laying length-wise in on the lake bed looking like they had just run out of steam and dropped to the desert. Maybe it was an aircraft firing range? Hiking in the mountains I looked down and picked up a fired .40-65 Winchester case. All of these were there for the picking up, not buried. Wonder what the stories are behind them?
