.50BMG rifles (and only .50BMG rifles, no other .50 variant is banned) are treated like assault weapons. They required specific registration and have greater limits on their transportation, use and transfer than normal firearms.

Thus you cannot acquire a 50BMG rifle.

However, you can get a 510DTC which offers equal performace and is not banned.

Most manufacturers of 50BMG rifle will also chamber a rifle in .510 DTC for you. How muxh do you want to spend on one? What do you want it to be capable of? For less than $6000, you can build a rifle capable of sub .5moa groups at 1000 yards. That price includes NXS, rings, case, etc. You can actually find complete rifles (no optics) from the low $2K range to over $20K.

Yes. I know of at least three different variations though.

Again, what type of 50 are you looking for? What are you going to do with it? What do you expect from it? Are you looking for a cheap, small pen.. compinsator? Are you looking for a custom built benchrest rifle? Do you plan on breaking clay pigeons at 1000 yards or just making a big boom and impressing those that don't know anything about 50s? How much are you willing to spend? I could probably come up with a list of over 20 different manufacturers but, I'm not going to take the time to do it without knowing what you are looking for. If you are even half way serious, I'd suggest starting your research by joining the FCSA and using our members only forum to it's fullest capabilities.

There are three know DTC variations. Only two are commonly used, the EDM variation and the Euro variation.

Most 50s are not mag fed. A receiver will not be as rigid if there is a large hole in it for a magazine. I've watched a world record 5 shot group set in 38 seconds with a shell holder action where the shooter needed to remove the bolt and R&R each round between shots. Forget about having a mag, it's really pretty useless on a 50.

In your price range, you have several options. My personal favorite is getting an ALS upper and putting it on an AR15 lower. I am far from a great shot yet, I've been able to shoot back to back .5moa groups with mine during a 1000 yard match. I've seen others produce several 3" and 4" groups with their ALS rifles. There are many other manufactures that you should consider as well. Look at Ferret50, Bohica, Serbu, Watson Weapon (I don't like the way it loads and I'm not sure if he'll do a DTC though), EDM is out of your price range, Ultra Mag, Ultra Lite, Noreen, A used AR50 that you can rebarrel&rechamber out of state, A used Steyr50 that you could rebarrel/rechamber out of state, State Arms, etc.

A friend of mine has an EDM and an ALS. He has shot 4"-5" groups with the ALS. I don't think he has shot qiute that well with his EDM.

Here's a couple other choices for big boomers.

Ø 49” match grade fluted barrel Ø Heavy duty clam-shell brake Ø Detachable box magazine Ø Available in 14.5mm and/or 20mm calibers Ø Titanium firing pin Ø 2 mile max range Ø Optional weights and configurations Ø Huge amounts of fun Ø Low recoil

                          Yes, they're both CA legal.
